What fluids do i want?

Radiator, both diffs..yes i have the weak ones...lol
and tranny and t/c. OH and oil... 105k 4.0 I6

I have no idea how the guy before me treated her but i want to make sure to put some good fluids in her so that i can make her last.

I drive her easy with the get on the good foot once and awhile.
Best fluid for the buck... budget here so dont wanna break the bank....lol

year, manual or auto?

KellyK 12-21-2008 11:16 PM

DAMN i KNEW i forgot something...lmao

Its a 99 5speed

Coyote_94YJ 12-22-2008 05:29 AM

4.0L = 10w-30 (6qts)
Tranny = 75w-90 (3.3qts)
T-Case = ATF (1.5-2qts)
Diffs = 75w-90 (Front 2.5 pints Rear 3.5 pints)
Radiator = 50/50 (10.5qts)

These quantities are a close estimate. The tranny, t-case, and both diffs should be filled till the fluid is level with the fill hole while the jeep is sitting on level ground.

i remember reading somewhere that there is a special antifreeze that jeeps like more. Am i way off base there?

distortedtj 12-22-2008 09:16 AM

Good ol Green for the 99 is fine. The newer TJ's came with the orange crap. Your works great with the Green.

Don't use tap water if you get the straight antifreeze, Use distilled water ONLY.

:rofl::rofl: Been running anti-freeze&tap water mix in my vehicles for 30 years and never had an issue. Only my new ones have special requirements.

well, i usually get the straight anti-freeze and mix it myself. think of it this way, if you get the 50/50 you are paying for 50% water. i feel like i am getting ripped off with the 50/50. just mt .02 though.

Its still good advice. Where I live the water has a high mineral content. I usually buy the 50/50 because it saves a second stop for distilled water. :D

Ok so what about "types" of fluids for everything else?...

Age old debait. "I like synthetic, Oh but dino is the best way". In the end it will always be what you want to believe.

I run Valvoline in the motor and axles. <-- dino
Mobile 1 in the t-case. <--full synthetic
Redline MT-90 in the trans.

KY lube for the rear end..lol..

tap water for the windshield fluid.. and if I feel like splurging I add a couple drops of dish washing soap.

stevens243 12-22-2008 09:56 PM

Don't forget ladies, if you use all the distilled water in your radiator, you'll have to run out and buy more for the iron :D
