Going to do some LED testing. Rigid vs Aurora vs ??

I've seen a whole bunch of questions about the difference between some of the LED light options out there. I did some indoor testing with the Rigid Dually D2's and the Aurora 30 watt lights. Although I kept all of the settings the same on the camera, I feel like there was a bit of false output that wasn't quite accurate. I think I am going to do some side-by-side comparison with both lights on at the same time, next to each other. I will do the same for stock headlights vs the Trucklite LED headlights.

I plan on placing the lights/vehicles in the parking lot at my fire station 50 feet or so from the side of the building. I'll then go up to the top of our training tower so I can get a good birds eye view of both lights on at the same time, without them overlapping on each other. If any other Jeepers in the NW Houston area have some lights they want to test out, please shoot me a PM so we can post the results for everyone to see. I'd love to test the Rigid 50" bar vs the "off-brand" 50"

Does anyone have any other suggestions, or situations that you would like to see these lights compared?

Subscribed!! I saw someone wanting to do a similar test in the past but nothing ever came of it. Hopefully everything will go smoothly! Thanks for doing this, im always wanting to see night beam shots and this is exactly what i was looking for.

BTW, great idea taking the pics from the tower as well, i havent seen anything from that perspective before.

Thanks for your time and effort in getting this going.

I think the results of your testing will prove to be very valuable for a lot of people out there.
The way I see it, I know the Rigid is going to have more output because they use a higher wattage LED (although the same manufacturer of LED). Take that slightly higher output to cost, and then decide if the higher cost of the Rigid 34.5w D2 is worth it over the Aurora 30w D2.

I am interested to see how much of a difference the 4.5w makes between the two.

Definitely subsribing to this.

I'm at the offroad lights purchase stage so this is going to be useful information for me.

Who can you buy these Aurora lights from? My search comes up with the company, but no place to buy.

txsmokeater, I got mine here: LED Lighting | Exploration Outfitters

If you want to come check mine out and compare them with the Rigids in person, I am not too far from you. Over in Cypress (and I'm with the Cypress Creek VFD, Station 24).

I'm working on the comparison pics, but am waiting for a new photocell sensor for our parking lot lights, so I can turn them off and not have them affecting the test shots.

I bought my Aurora's directly from the factory. Had a few issues (nothing major) but they have honestly been a pleasure to deal with and everything I needed has been done ASAP, including refunding money. I wish I can say the same thing for many American companies I have dealt with.

There's another new LED offroad light company called "Plashlight" too. They sell lights that look VERY similar to the D2's, for less than half the price. Test these too, please. ;-)

how about the hanma?

Plashlights sells "Aurora" brand lights.
Most pop-up companies out there are selling 're-branded' Aurora or Hanma lights. Most of these companies assign their own name brand to the lights to avoid the ever popular question of, "what brand are those lights?"
Hanma and Aurora are the two largest import brands of LED light bars, so most of what you see is going to be from one or the other of them.

Dig a little and you will see that Aurora and Rigid have very close ties to one another.

I buy, sell, and personally use the Hanma light bars. The quality is top-notch and the light output is great. You can't beat the price either.

How about putting the new KC LZR led lights in there too. :punk:

TXST8tj 07-03-2013 10:02 PM

Hanma makes KC's LED lights, FYI
...they also make the OEM LEDs for Volvos among other various brands.
