I am replacing the rear pinion seal this weekend. I have read that the 87-89 came with the non-clip dana 35. Removing the yoke and replacing the seal should not be a problem, but I have been reading about the crush sleeve. Will this need to be replaced also? Does anyone know the torque spec for the pinion nut?
Please share if you know of a good write up that covers this job. Thanks for any help.

The crush sleeve does not need to be replaced. You can, but it is not needed. If you have never done a pinion seal before I can tell you from experience that the bolt holding it on is one tight SOB. At least for my Dana 30 it was, for my 35 it wasnt too bad, but this weekend I am doing it on my 8.8 and I have a feeling it will be worse than either of them. You are supposed to replace the nut though. Also before removing the nut count the amount of threads that stick out past the nut. When you put it back together it should be roughly in the same place. Getting accurate torque readings on it can be a major pain though. Even the new nut will probably be a pain to get on.
The Haynes manual also details the procedure perfectly. It is very easy, a 10 minute job for me. Torque setting is very high, 180 lbs or so, essentially something the average person cannot overdo with hand tools. I hit mine with an impact wrench and kept checking it till it lined up. Did a run around the block and its been perfect since. 500 miles on her or so, no issues

I have have replaced a pinion seal before just never on a d35 and I never replaced the pinion nut with a new one in the past. But if replacing the pinion nut is the proper way then I need to get one ordered. My impact should be able to remove the old nut. Thanks for your response.

I would not replace the nut I just tap the end of it a few times to renew the self lock and reinstall it.
