Smittybilt Tire Relocation Bracket

OK folks, here's the scoop

I had my dealer install 35" tires & a 3" lift on my new 4door Rubicon before I took possession of it. In order to mount the full-size spare on the back they used the Smittybilt relocation bracket to make it fit. I have a couple concerns & hopefully you folks can lead me in the right direction. ;)

1- My 35" tires are the Nitto Trail Grapplers mounted on 17" XD Addict wheels & they are HEAVYYYYY! My concern is, is this too much weight to be putting on the tailgate? Will this setup potentially cause damage to the hinges or the tailgate itself? Are there lots of folks running setups like this & is it an issue?

2- With this relocation bracket it throws the spare tire quite a ways out off the tailgate when mounted up. The factory spare sat up against some rubber bumpers that came off the tailgate & now with the new setup the 35" Nitto does not sit up against the bumpers. There is quite a bit of vibration because of this, especially when closing the tailgate. You can literally see the tire bouncing & shaking when slamming the tailgate closed. Will this have a negative effect on my tailgate? Also, is there any way to extend these rubber bumpers out against the spare to lessen the vibration?

Finally, if you folks suggest doing away with this setup completely then are there any good alternatives that will allow me to keep my factory rear bumper? I have been eyeing up the Teraflex spare tire mount that comes off the factory hinge points. It looks like it might be a great system! Is it worth the asking price & will it solve my problems?

Thanks.

hi i had the same issues i bought a teraflex adjustable carrier for abou $200. it is adjustable up and down and in and out. i like it but i can tell theres alot more weight on my tail gate with the 35 mounted. i didnt like teraflexes 3rd brake light so i mounted a led break light in my center cap.

Any update on this? I just bought nitto 295/70/18 on rock star 2 wheels and needless to say they don't fit in the stock carrier. Looking for the best inexpensive solution before I invest in a new imperfect and tire carrier. I am looking at this one and the Rampage 86610.
