AX5 transmission questions

i have a 95 yj with the ax5 in it, the syncros are bad in it and i was thinking of rebuilding it myself. How hard is it to rebuild? any advice with this would be helpful i can have it rebuilt for about $700 but i can ruild it myself for about 200

I tried rebuilding mine about ten years ago when I wasn't patient enough. It comes apart easy, but going back together I had to have a family friend help me. And because of that I ended up buying a rebuilt one and selling the rebuilt in-operational one.

With a Dakota 2.5L belhousing you can upgrade to an AX15 and never have to worry about it again....

But you have to have the money for the new xsfer rear and front drive shafts. And all the new shifter brackets and shifters more $$$$ you just have to make sure you have

the AX15 is about half an inch longer, you wont need anothing but the transmission, Tcase input gear, and a tcase shifter bracket.

Check Novak for all you need!

and yes it all costs money, but less in the long run...

You would probably also need the clutch master and slave cylinder for the Dakota as well as the clutch right?

It's a good idea to change the clutch but the master and slave should accept the ax15.

I recently switched over from the ax5. I've owned the Jeep for two years and after the SECOND ax5 crapped out I decided it was more economical in the long run to make the switch.

i have thought about the conversion for awhile and im gonna have to wait for a lil while on that but if i can rebuild it for right now to get me by until i can come up with the $$$$$ to do it is it an easy rebuild could i do it in a weekend

I actually have an AX15 AND a NP3550 sitting in my garage with 5.2L, 3.9/4.7L and 4.0L bells...., and Id swap them but im also saving parts for a 5..2L swap, so for me to swap it now is kinda silly....
