Cold Air Intake
 
2010 3.8L.... Would a Cold Air Intake make a difference in power and would it be worth the $$ to put one on. What are the pro's and con's in your opinions?

People here complain about to much dirt getting inside their JK engine with a K&N air intake. But your ok if you live in a area that doesn't have too much sand/dirt roads, a little dirt won't hurt your engine. I have an AFE intake and haven't had a problem with it. I have a K&N in my other car and it did give it a additional hp but it's because it was forced inducted. They're all the same airaid, k&n and afe

I ran a Banks for a little while. My opinion, not worth the cost for little gain if any.

Some crappy brands, like KN, might introduce dirt. But CAI are generally safe. Some protect better than OEM filter box.

You will not get any gains except some placebo in your head.

They sound great. That was the sole reason I bought mine.

I installed the AFE kit a few weeks ago and don't see a difference in power, but it looks and sounds cool.

not sure if it was me changing my driving or the intake but I gained a little MPG that said I went on a run with the local clube that involved some water and mud as the water went over the hood I thought to my self wow wonder how close that got to submerging the filter as the KN has little protection. got home and pulled the cover off to find mud/dirt on the lower 1/8 of the filter while the whole engin was brown with dirt. got close so I am considering going to something else or back to stock.

Well if you think about it most engines now are built really good and they can last 200k miles. I don't think you should worry about small dirt particles coming into your engine unless you live in a place where theres sand or dirt always flying around. Most JK owners in this Forum will probably sell their Jeep after 75-100k miles. I mean I usually keep cars for 3-4 years with that mileage.

Wow - just wow. First, I agree that engines are built well these days compared to older designs. However, abrasive particles (dirt or otherwise) are the principle cause of engine wear (along with lack of lubrication/protection from your oil on start-up). Those particles aren't just something to worry about, they are THE thing to worry about with respect to engine wear. The quality of your oil, the quality of your air and oil filtration are the three biggest factors you can control to prolong the life of your engine. I suppose if you view a vehicle as disposable, it doesn't much matter.

A high efficiency filter doesn't necessarily need to flow less air than the factory filter, but the OP is talking about a JK that is already 3-4 years old. I'd certainly consider the longevity of my engine if I were in their shoes.

I just put one on, AND LOVE IT! K&N 63 series. Its a little more response but not much, plus i got 1.3 more mpg! It makes my minivan powered JK sound like a V8! I havent gone down many dirt roads or big trails, but i did blast through a couple mud holes on the back way to the golf corse today.

I bet if that bothers you, you can seal up the heat shield a little bit more, but i would say go for it!

I have a 2013 Jk with the 3.6 VVT motor what's a good intake for it.Any thoughts about the motor I am new to the jeep world and love already ?

Horse crap!!! I call BS!!! No CAI will ever make a Jeep sound like a V8!!

Dirt is your engines worst enemy. It's guaranteed to give you a oil burner!
Changing air cleaners and exhaust, other than for sound is a waste of money and may cause you problems.:nonono::nonono::nonono:
If your looking for better performance, well re-gearing is your best bet!
There are some very knowledgeable members on this Forum, that can help you in that area!:thumb:

It all really depends on what you want to do with your JEEP.
Your best bet is to drive it for a while as is, then decide what you want to do with it.
What size tires you want to run, flat ground, or lots of hills, do you mostly go off road, or is it a daily driver, in town, or highway. All these factors can effect your final decision.

Double call. No CAI is going to give an additional 1.3 mpg, if it did thats, what the factory would use. They are hard pressed to get the highest mileage they can.
