Engine & Tranny Differences ?

Can anyone explain the differences between -
  • the 3-speed 30RH & the 3-speed 32RH Automatic Transmission?
According to wikipedia, both were manufactured from 1997-2002.

Also, other than the 0.1 liter difference, what are the other differences between the -
  • 2.5L AMC Straight-4 Engine & the 2.4L PowerTech Engine?
The 2.5L was made before the 2.4L. Why would they introduce a smaller engine AFTER the first? You'd think they'd go bigger.

Actually the 2.4L is more powerful than the 2.5L

* 120 hp @ 5,400 RPM
* 140 ft/lbs @ 3,500 RPM
* OHV
* Sequential port fuel injection
* 2 valves per cylinder
* Compression ratio = 9.20:1 (97-00) / 9.10:1 (01-02)

2.4L I-4 148 cu in - 2003-2006
* 147 hp @ 5,200 RPM
* 165 ft/lbs @ 4,000 RPM

The 30RH is what came behind the 2.5L engine, the 32RH is what came with the 4.0L engine. They are similar transmissions but the 32RH is built more heavily with bigger diameter shafts to handle the larger 4.0L engine.
