Rollover
 
My buddy's rig on Thurs May 16.
No injuries.
After a skilled team recovery and a few adjustments with a BFH, he drove it on the trails for the next two days.

The recovery was tedious... it was 1/3 of the way down, on a steep hill, against two trees. Note the Jeep at the bottom of the hill in the background. Two winches, with both Jeeps tied off to a deadman or tree.

She smoked a bit at first, but ran well afterward. Didn't lose much fluid in the hour+ that it was upside down.

How did it get upside down there? It seems oddly positioned to have come to a rest that way.

This hill is about 75 yards from the scene of the crime. Picture the view from this driver's seat, facing uphill, nothing but sky. Similar hill/angle, except the downhill side is only one vehicle wide, lined by trees, with a hard break to the left, and much steeper/longer than the gentle downhill shown in this pic.

He was last in a line of 5. Advice on the CB he heard was to stay right. This was in reference to trees on the downhill side... he thought they meant to stay right on the uphill side. By the time he could see the downhill trail, it was too late. The narrow-track CJ on 35s was high right and leaning hard left. Steering neither right nor left could have prevented the roll at that point.

We figure he rolled twice, off to the left side of the trail. The rear of the family cage caught a tree and bounced the rig back to the right, where it was stopped upside-down against a couple other trees.

Here's a pic of the downhill side, showing some sense of the steepness, and break. Picture his CJ high right. The divot in the hill just right center of the pic is where the hood or fender hit first... That divot is off to the left of the actual trail, so you can see it's a hard break to the left.

Ya it was a good, safe recovery. We probably took more than half an hour until we agreed on the best & safest approach, and least damaging to the vehicle.

A shame how pictures almost always depreciate the steepness of the hills. Looks like a fun place to wheel besides the roll, 'mirin the I-beam front bumper on his rig :thumb:
