Advice

So I've been looking into getting a new jeep in a few months. I really like the unlimited 4 door but can anybody give me advice??? 4 or 2 door or what model to get? Any help is appreciated and not really picky about it thanks!

Test drive each an see which one you feel will suit you more. Model is preference an bit of a price difference between each from pretty much a basic sport to a loaded rubi.

2 door = tighter turn radius.

4 door = more room for gear and peeps.

We can't tell you what suits your needs more. I have a JKU and wouldn't want a 2 door. I like the extra cargo space and passenger room. But, opinions are like bellybuttons...

1998wranglersport 05-20-2013 03:59 PM

I think a 4 door is what I'm thinking but now it's just a matter of the model type

ESP 05-20-2013 04:09 PM

Jeeps have 2 doors. :D

panthermark 05-20-2013 04:13 PM

2 door or 4 door....get what fits your needs. Such questions can end up in flame wars.

As far as models go...well...Sport, Sport S, Sahara or Rubi....get what fits your needs. Such questions can end up in flame wars.

And just for good measure...stick or auto...........get what fits your needs. Such questions can end up in flame wars.

But for real...get what fits your own needs and pocketbook. It all depends on how you will use the vehicle.

ESP 05-20-2013 04:14 PM

But getting what you want can still end up in a flame war. We have many talented folks here on the forum.

True indeed...

There are plenty that will still tell you how you screwed up by not getting what THEY wanted you to get...even if it is your money.... :D

I'm looking into the sport S because I'm not going to do a lot of heavy off roading plus it's better on my wallet

ESP 05-20-2013 04:18 PM

I love spending other peoples money.

...they both collect lint?

Just a bit of buyer's remorse here:

I should have held out for the stick
I should have held out for the leather
I probably should have held out for a lower gear ratio but the extra mileage is a good thing.
Rubi - discos: eh, the quick connects are perfectly fine. Glad I did not pay for the motor.
Don't pay for high dollar wheels - you will likely just replace them with the tire upgrade.
Anticipate blowing a few hundred the first week after you get the Jeep.
Enjoy. The JKU rides great.

Not trying to spend your money, just thinking of the few things I would have done differently

Good call....
Make sure you get 3.73's, expecially if you are leaning towards a 4 door.

Being that I see snow in your pic, get Trac-Lok (anti-spin/LSD) as well.

When I looked at a Sport S, I considered those two items a MUST for any JKU that will see snow or rain (unless you plan on adding your own aftermarket LSD).

The other Sport S items there were "musts" for me (for not for everyone else) were:

Hardtop (a touch more security and a rear windhield wiper and defrost)
Connectivity group (bluetooth, hands free calling)
Side Airbags (safety first...kid on the way)
Auto (simply based on the vehicle I was trading and vs the vehicle I was purchasing. If I would have gotten a 2 door, it probably would have been a stick)

Something I would also consider would be dualtops (especially if you have a garage to store your hard top).

I went one rung lower and got the basic Sport without the "S". The only things I wanted were 3.73s, hardtop, a/c, manual, tow group, and my choice of color. Almost as cheap as they get compared to what's on the lots!

Best post of the day award!:punk:

And as for the OP, I had to go with a 2-door due to my maneuverability needs in tight spaces and center clearance over obstacles without needing a lift. Easier to park when I have to foray into Chicago.

4 doors are dumb. Get a 2 door

CarolinaCajun 05-20-2013 06:41 PM

My buyers remorse:
Wish I could have afforded a 4 door. I miss the space.

I have a Sport S and everything in it suits me just fine. Power everything (I needed keyless entry, non negotiable) and I love the bluetooth.

1998wranglersport 05-20-2013 08:06 PM

Thanks for all the advice!!! I think the sport S is going to suit me just fine still contemplating a few optional features haha

I have the 2 door. I don't like the rear seat. Too hard to access with the top up(just go over the side with it down) and then there is no trunk when its up. That said, if its just me and 1 other person there is plenty of room. If more, it's tough. I probably would have bought a 4 door if I could have afforded it but in 2008 there really weren't any used ones I could afford. I have a wide assortment of racks for the jeep and a 4x8 utility trailer so that's more than enough room for me, but I do wish my boats were in my tow capacity

That is where we ended up as well - although at the time they called it the "X" rather than Sport. With just a tire swap that the dealer did for $500 you have a very capable off road machine - not as good as the Rubi but a whole grunch less expensive.

I prefer a 2 door, but with a family it was time to go with the 4 door. Glad I did now as it suits our needs. Choice was either no Jeep or 4 door Jeep. I am sure it is the JK platform but coming from a YJ and TJ the 4 door JK drives like a dream.

Like mentioned do yourself a favor and get the 3.73 gears and anit-spin.

I wanted the classic 2 door look and the sportier maneuverability. So that's what I got.

Jacin369 05-21-2013 03:00 PM

Went with JKU sport s got her in march love her!!! Def go with 3.73

Terex 05-21-2013 08:35 PM

I've got a '12 JKR w/ 4.1. If you ever want to tow anything, the weight limitations between the 2 door and 4 door are significant. 2 door with proper gearing max tow weight is 2,000 lbs. With 4 door it's 3,500 lbs. This is the difference between a decent sized camper with the JKU and a small trailer with the JK (unless you're getting a lovely, light weight, off-road VMI Alpine built for your 2 door :thumb:).

I love my 2 door, but wish I now had the 4 door for towing and additional room for camping.

And like others said, get at least the 3.73.
