A heavier than recommended lubricant viscosity to muffle lifter noise at the expense of taking longer for the thicker oil to reach all the engine's tiny nooks & crannies doesn't seem like a good thing to me. I'd stick with the factory recommended 5W-30 or 10W-30. A little lifter noise in the 4.0L is normal. If you have excessive lifter noise, I'd have it looked at.

The original Rotella oil was great for diesels but a few years ago they took out the additives that made it good to run in gas engines. It's still better than a lot of oils out there, but not as good as it used to be. I run rotella in most of my cars and trucks.
