Fogs light circuit run LEDs?
 
I have purchased a Spyder Front Modular Hybrid Rock Crawler Winch Bumper and the Tuff Stuff Performance 12" Dual Row LED Off Road Light Bar that mounts inside the bumper. The current fog lights will hopefully fit into the new rear bumper's 4" openings.

Will the fog light circuit handle the current draw for the LED light bar?

The bumper will mount two additional lights. Are there other lights (LED or halogen) that could be run directly off the fog light circuit?

I am in Colorado. The local police seem a bit fussy about offroad lighting. Any other Colorado jeepers out there that know what lights we can use without getting pulled over for daily inspections?

Use a relay to be safe. Trigger it from the fog lights.

Need some advise. ... Just installed two sets of Dually LED lights on my JK. Needed to extend the wires a little bit. Used 18 gauge speaker wire i had. Is this safe for this application ? The lines use a 15 AMP fuse. Thanks in advance for your help.

jeep uses the thinnest wire possible
I would use this
Add a light 1 meter extension

No. 18 gauge copper stranded wire on a 12V system typically has an ampacity not exceeding 10A. Speaker wire, unless high dollar OFC wire, probably carries a wee bit less, but marginally the same. Either way, 18 is too small. 16 carries 20A according to some, but I think 15A is its max. I would go with no smaller than 14ga for a 15A load, personally. Most 14ga stranded wire I have used has been marked at a 17A ampacity.

Not knowing automotive wire sizes but I am a electrician and 14 AWG is rated for 15 amps 12AWG is rated for 20 amps is I agree I would run at least 14AWG for the lights - people feel that because it is just a car that any wire will work until that fated day when it catches fire

What can you run off the fog light circuit
 
Because I think less is more and I hate adding extra complexity if it isn't needed, I called several dealers until I found one that knew what the fog lights draw on a 2012 JKU Sahara.

Fog light current draw is 37 watts per light.

The LED light bar I am installing has 20 3 watt LEDs.

Just saying.

If you are replacing the fogs and only using the bar, you're all good. 37W sounds right for a fog to me, and obviously 60 < 74.

If you are wanting to add more lights to the same circuit, like 2 more on the bumper, you are already adding complexity to the circuit and need to power it in a safe, reliable fashion. Keeping it on the factory fog light circuit is easily accomplished with a relay using the fog positive lead as a trigger. Otherwise, you'll be running much more amperage down the factory wires than intended. Well, unless you do ample research to find fogs that draw 14W or less, which even (good) LEDs will have trouble doing and even then you will still have brighter, better light using a direct path relay controlled.

Yea, I am planning to add a pair of 55w HIDs to the bar and those will absolutely be on a new circuit with 12 gauge wire, relay, and separate switch.

Running a wire from the fog light plugs all the way back to a relay then a wire back to the LED bar seems a bit overkill but your point about the incredible crappy OEM wiring is well taken. I wish I had a wiring harness diagram for the 2012 JK. If I could find the outgoing wire to the fog lights closer to the firewall then I could splice in a relay and just run 12 gauge wire down to the light bar.

For sure, buying a new Jeep and slapping wires everywhere isn't winning any cool points.

Personally, I would add a fuse box for accessories, then add the relay to a position, then route both the wires through a singular wire loom to the fogs, assuming I couldn't locate the factory wire close to the battery or relay location and wanted to use a relay. I would also try to fit the 12ga going to my hids in the same loom, leaving a cleaner install.

I don't mean to imply you have to add anything on the light bar; you don't. As long as the other lights are independent, the bar will be satisfied with a healhy safety margin. You can always hook it up and see how it is, then install the hids later and change it at that time if you want to squeek a bit more light out.

TIPM C4 connector pin 11 WT/OR is rf fog lamp & pin 16 WT/YL is lf fog lamp. There isn't a relay for them, they are high side driver controlled thru the TIPM. Maybe that will help you.

The law states the fogs can't come on with the high beams so the relay is set up for the lead from the low beams. "F" that! I went directly to the battery to use the PIAA relay. I should have done what Archer is saying plus used my own clean small relay for the job. My LEDs on the A-pillar stay on 24/7 instead. No big deal though... I'm at sea for 28 days and it doesn't effect the battery what so ever, but I wish I had his info back when I wired it and had done it cleaner.

Hey Archer, How can I protect my TIPM from water damage when I run through rivers? What else do I need to protect?

my buddy has been running some hella floods off of his fog circuit with no issues.
