2.5 lift with 33s pics please

I am going to get 33 tires MT ATZs and MT classic wheels. I was going to get a 2.5 lift but everyone tells me that the wheels will look too small with that lift. I donít want to go to 35s like everyone says I should because its my DD and I want a good ride and try to preserve some of the MPGs. The last shop I talked to said I should do a 2inch BB lift and that would look fine and give me what I need. It seems that not too many are in support of the BB and feel a real lift is better, if anyone here has a 2.5 with 33s id love to see a few pics.

Thanks

Those are MT ATZ 33s with a 2.5 lift?

Got some PM questions about this, but they're generally applicable questions so I'll answer them out here in public. :wavey:

Firstly, my wording was unclear. I used the term "over" to mean "above." As in, it's a 2.5" TeraFlex kit ABOVE 33" tires. It's not a "coil over" kit, which is a different animal entirely.

Second, it's TeraFlex's standard 2.5" coil kit without shocks. This one. I added Old Man Emu shocks instead of using TeraFlex shocks or shock extensions.

Third, I was debating between this kit and Rock Krawler stock mod kit when another member offered this kit to me--unused--after he ordered it and then decided he wanted to go bigger. Rather than pay return shipping and so on, he just sold it to me for a small discount. Worked out well.

Fourth, it's been installed for a long time now and rides great. I commute 35 miles each way, five days a week and have no complaints. The gas mileage--2010, 3.8, 4 door, with a 6 speed--averages out to about 17 to 18 mpg.

Fifth, I have no idea why folks seem to think 33s will look "too small" under 2.5" of lift. I've never thought my 33s look too small. But it's a matter of opinion I guess.

More questions welcome.

Definately get the lift you think is right for you! If this is your DD and you don't inted to get off-road too often, go for the BB. I had a Daystar 1.75 BB with 33" MT/R's for a little over a year. The feel on the road is great. Once I got it off road, I noticed something missing in the feel and articulation. The BB was less that $200 and I think it was money well spent!

For a more off-road worthy setup I pieced things together for my lift based on what I liked. I want the OME 2.5 coils with Bilstein shocks and JKS discos, I added extended rear sway bar links and rear brake brackets. Lastly, I added adjustable front and rear track bars to realign the axles with the tub!

This set up was far more expensive than the Budget Boost, but I did the labor myself, I am happy with the results. I think that the 33" tires look perfect with this lift.

Here's mine. TF 2.5 Coil lift, Rancho 9000 adjustables with 33" duratracs. It's great as DD and Offroad. I don't think they are too small at all.

Here's mine. I have a Zone, 3" lift kit with additional 3/4" spacers up front to eliminate the rake. The tires are Dick Cepek FC II, 33 x 12.5 x 17.

Thanks in each picture I see no reason why they say 33s will look too small. One shop was talking a Rubicon Express 2.5 and the other was a Procomp which is better on those two? The Rubicon Express comes without shocks so I could up the anti with Billstien 5100s if I go the full lift route.

Not sure, really.

It might also depend in part on what specific kits they're talking about. A lot of companies offer a few 2.5" kits, some of which are more inclusive than others.

If I was looking for a 2.5" kit today, I'd look hard at MetalCloak, Rock Krawler, and TeraFlex. Take a look at this thread: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/lif...ps-221119.html

Ok that settles it, I know I'm not gonna bother trying to get into 35's (or bigger) now until I comfortably have the money to do all the axle upgrades (including C's, truss/sleeves, and re-gearing) first. Those look nice. Are those 33x12.5x?? or something like a 285/??/??

MikeK46 05-21-2013 11:03 PM

On a 2dr with 2.5" lift, 33's are fine (that's what I did). On a 4dr I'd want 35's.

Nice Jeep. Can you tell me what size wheel with backspace and tires are those? I know your tires 33" but what is the full size combo?

suicideking 05-22-2013 12:58 AM

RK 2.5" MT with 33" BFG

Yep, they are in my shed while I figure what lift for my new Rubicon. I'll check them tonight but I'm sure they are 12.5 wide. Love the look of them.

I'm getting 33's this week and it just crossed my mind about the spare tire carrier. Has anyone run into trouble hanging 33" duratraks on the stock carrier?

Nope. You'll be fine. Just get some day star bumpstops to help secure the tire.

michiganadam 05-22-2013 09:52 AM

2.5 with 33s is how they shouldve came from the factory imo.

I am not posting my pics because i have no clue what my lift is. Dealer said it "looks" like "2 or 2.5"....

It comes down to backspacing on the wheels. I think you want 4.5" of backspace to run 33s.

Another crappy cell phone camera picture. I've not bothered to take any good pictures of my Jeep since I got it nearly two weeks ago.

Edit. Here's another. I posted it elsewhere before, but since the phone wasn't level, it made it look like I have a front rake.

I just leveled out the photo, there's no rake at all :-)

At first I upgraded to 33''s on stock 18's. I had some rubbing issues when I turned the wheel all the way. Other than that normal driving was fine.

When I first got them I thought - "naw I would never want 35's, the 33's were big enough" Well after looking over this site more and thinking about it I ended up thinking my tires were to small. After only having the 33's for like 4 months I sold them and bought 35's. I am really happy now and wont go any bigger. Think long and hard before you make your decision so down the road you arent wasting money
