Im running NO REAR BUMPER now

So after looking for a rear bumper that I liked with no success, I did some research and found that a lot of people have taken their rear bumpers off completely for the best possible departure angle. So I decided to do it.

Best choice ever. I love it. I will be investing in the GenRight rear bumper plate with tow hooks AND the GenRight tire carrier that does NOT use the rear bumper. They can both be seen in the links below. I am ALSO looking for a way to get the gas tank up a bit.

When I took the rear bumper off the plate behind it was kind of rusty, so I scraped, sanded, primed and painted it.

Rear Tire Carrier for the Jeep TJ or LJ

Don't forget that you need new taillights, can't use the stock ones.

I have the same carrier sitting in the garage back home, can't wait to get it on. Are you going for the aluminum one or steel?

For sure! I wanted to do away with the stock tail lights anyways. I am going aluminum on this. only 25 pounds!

Haven't crunched any numbers, but is an extra few degrees really going to hinder you on the trail? And if you're in an area where your rear bumper is getitng hung up on rocks, your front tires will likely be on the ground to pull you through, your suspension will droop enough in the rear to get traction, or momentum will slide ya over. Seems the loss in protection isn't worth the extra few degrees that would only really apply if you were in a super tight gully like this --> \_/ (pretty right?)

On the other hand I love the clean look :D

Feel free to educate me, just my take on it.

I have come off steep angles and hit my rear bumper numerous times. This is why I looked for a high clearance bumper but didnt like what I saw. You have to remember I am only running a 2.5" lift so my stuff might be closer to the ground than yours.

ALSO there is NO loss in protection as the plate still sticks out past the body and when I get the Genright bumper plate it will be a little but more too.

PLUS... I like the way it looks! haha

Seems to me now instead of coming off the rock and hitting your bumper which can take it, you'll hit the tub mount carrier and tweak/wreck the tub, and possibly the rear window?
It does look sweet though :D
