Backspacing question
30 Attachment(s)
I have been told that almost any lift over 2.5" requires a wheel with 4.5 or less of backspacing. I am looking at getting a set of the Pro Comp 7031's in 17" which have a backspacing of 4.75. So if I am thinking correctly, I will need to get wheel spacers to use this wheel on a lift that is over 2.5" or no spacers if I go with a 2.5" lift, correct?

I have the Rugged Ridge wheels which are 17x9 with a 4.75 BS that I'm running with an RK 2.5". I don't use spacers and I have no rubbing issues. RK lifts always give more height than advertised, and I ended up with about 3 ~ 3.5".
Hope that helps....

I am running Pro Comp 17 inch wheels with the 4.75 back spacing. I have a 3.5 inch lift and 35x12.5 wheels. No problems. AEV runs wheels that are a little over 5 inches of back space and that works too. The 4.5 inch or less may be an old rule of thumb. No worries, you will be fine.

It is actually the tire width that you need to consider... not the lift. If you are going to run 315/70s/17 (12.5 wide), then you need at least 5.25" backspacing for clearance. Factory is 6.5", so the typical 1.5" spacer gives you 5" with factory wheels and you are good to go.

If you go with the 4.75" backspacing wheels you are just going to end up with a Jeep that has a 1/2 inch wider stance than spacers... and going to 4.5" would again give you another 1/2 of track... and the ability to run an even wider tire if that is what you wanted.

OK, I'm thinking for going with the Zone 3" Lift with Nitro shocks and was sold by the seller that I would need wheels with 4.5 or less of backspacing. So if this is the case, then I need to get spacers if I want to use the Pro Comp 7031's (4.75 backspacing), correct?
