Where was your jk built

Hey everyone, im just wondering if anyone else has been interested in knowing where their jeep came from. I know their are two plants one in mexico and the other in Michigan correct? Is their a way to tell via the vin or some other means? Mine is a 2013 2 door. Would love to know where mine was built :)

This may take a bit of research. I had just got my JKUR and the dealership told me it was built in Toledo OH.

kjeeper10 05-24-2013 06:00 PM

Loosing oil = Mexico for me :)

twarner776 05-24-2013 06:18 PM

I thought all jk's were built in Toledo. Now engines that's another story. There are two plants for those I think.

All Wranglers Sold in North America are built with pride at Supplier Park, Toledo, Ohio.

All 3.6 Pentastar engines in the JK are built in Michigan.

tab22092 05-24-2013 06:25 PM

Just called jeep customer service, and the lovely service woman told me based on my vin my jeep was built in the good ol U.S of A :) Made me very happy to know my jeep was built by americans. Not that im against anyone im just very proud of my country and believe we should worry about putting our own people to work before anyone else. It was also a pleasant surprise to be able to understand the operator! And she was easily one of the nicest people i have ever spoken too regarding a customer service call. I love my jeep even more now. An American icon putting American people to work!

There are definitely 2 engine plants. One in Michigan, and one in Mexico

And the manual trans from Germany. Somewhere I saw a stat with the percentage of foreign sourced parts. It was pretty high.

Jeeps_and_Boats 05-24-2013 06:54 PM

Yep... tab22092 found it...

tab22092 05-24-2013 06:58 PM

Oh and btw their is an investigation going on regarding the transfer cases going from the neutral position into gear on their own. There may or may not be a recall. The recall will be vin specific though so everyone should be calling jeep to keep their contact info up to date in case one of our rigs hits the lotto lol

tab22092 05-24-2013 07:00 PM

Or i could have it backwards, i have a very bad short term memory lol i literally got off the phone with them less than 30 minutes ago -__-

Jeep Wranglers rank very high on the list of:

US Labor! (UAW Local 12 Jeep Unit!)
US sourced parts
US assembly

And even though Fiat is the parent now, if you factor in where the profits go, the corporation stays high on the list.

Check this link and their methodology, and you may agree it's much better than the glitzy lists in pop consumer magazines that always somehow manage to rank their advertiser's foreign cars way up on the list.

Not that wikipedia is 100% correct but there are defiantly 2 engine plants. Now if your saying that Jeep only uses engines out of Trenton you make be correct, however there are several threads on multiple sites stating the 3.6 for Jeep is made in both locations.

From Wiki
"The Pentastar engines are made in Trenton, Michigan and Saltillo, Mexico. The Saltillo plant is set to begin production in the 2012 model year (with parts machined in Toledo, Ohio)."

I never disputed whether there was more than one plant for the 3.6L.
But the 3.6L used in the JKs is built in the US and that's a fact Jack. LOL

You do realize that many foreign auto makers have manufacturing plants in the USA and employ American workers, right? Honda's plant, for instance, is in Marysville, OH. As for it's parts, like most all American makes, they could be manufactured anywhere.

I just looked at my 09 Honda Accord window sticker and 65% US and Canada and 20% Japan.

Yes i do, and i am grateful for these companies as well. However you have to keep in mind that a jeep is a true american icon. The combination of the two and just having everything add up is what did it for me.

The touareg has always had VW engines. The only V8 was the 4.2L and that was a Volkswagen group engine. But the routan looks very similar with a new front clip

The 2012 and later 5 speed autos are built in Germany by Daimler-Benz (Mercedes). It's a great tranny.

Mexico made chryslers have mexican made Pentastars. Jeeps have US built pentastars. Look at a map as to why it makes sense. Which one is better? Meh. Its nuts and bolts both are the same. I am glad it keeps jobs here though.
