Ride on the old family farm, outside London, Ky.

Had a family reunion this weekend and was able to get permission from the current land owner of my Grandfathers old farm, to take the Jeep up through the holler into the mountains behind the house. Brought back some great memories growing up riding dirt bikes and 4 wheelers there back in the 70's-the 90's. I lived near Dayton, Ohio back then, and this was like paradise to be able to getaway to on the weekends.

The old farmhouse and barn to the left of the pic.

This is an old hill climb we called "3rd Gear", because one cousin tried to climb it back in 1978 or so with a 1975 250 Honda Elsinore in third gear, and flipped it all the way back down the hill. Its all grown up now, but nothing a chainsaw couldn't take care of. lol .

This is on the highest peak on the farm, it doesn't look like much in this pic, but it is very steep and a lot of rock crawling to get up there.

And the view from the top.

Had a Great Time !! That was a great place to grow up riding dirt bikes and 4 wheelers, but was really neat to be able to take my Jeep up there 30 years later. I was bound and determined to get that Jeep to the peak, even if I had to pull it up there with the winch, but it wasn't needed .. lol Luckily, the guy that owns the farm now, used to ride dirt bikes with me and my cousins back in the day, so he told me I could come back and go up there anytime I wanted to.

Ive looked through a lot of trail pictures on here and these honestly have to be one of my favorite. Something about the backwoods, old country that I really enjoy. A nice clean, but wilderness ride. Living in Florida I wont have anything like that around me, but back in NY (I lived in Buffalo) it was plentiful

Its odd you said that, my cousin lives in Eustice, Fl. retired from Orlando Dept. of Sanitation. He just bought a couple lake view lots here by me on the lake and we were working over there clearing his land off this week and he said he liked working on his flat land in Florida much better than working on these hillsides around the lake. Glad you enjoyed them.

Well if you ever come up I-75 to Buffalo, thru Ky. when you pass the London, Ky exit, you are about 8-10 miles from where those pics were taken.

And you can also go onto the Livingston exit(about 10-15 miles north of London) at the top of the exit ramp turn to the left and there is the beginning of a huge public trail riding area(its free and open area to ride and camp), with all the rock climbing and trails a guy could ever want ride on. It is referred to in the 4 wheeling community as "909".

Great pics and great Jeep!

Awesome pictures!

I grew up in Corbin, KY until I was 10 years old (1980-1990). I know that is just one exit down from London.

Thanks, glad everyone seems to be enjoying the pics. Looking forward to going back soon. There are many more trails along those mountains tops that I didn't get to travel this time.

Thanks, I used to run around in Corbin with my cousins on the weeknds back then in the late 70's to early 80's. Just down old 25 a few miles actually. And yes the next exit south on I-75 too.

Hello neighbor

:wavey:
I grew up in London, not far from exit 49 or "909". I now live in Berea but go to church in London every Sunday. I also have a lake house on Lake Cumberland that I go too all year throughout the summer. Interesting to hear that we are soo close.

I have been a long time lurker and plan on getting my jeep this fall, I will be making many trips to that "909" you spoke of. I spent most of my childhood fourwheeling from that exit over to the area where this farm is. I could'nt help but register and comment on these posts because I know exactly where this farm is and this thread hits so close to home.

Great pictures BTW

Thanks
Glad you liked the pics. 909 is a great place to go off roading. Beautiful area.
