The worst thing about taking your doors off...

Is when the wind whips up and tries to steal your hat. Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone found any kind if remedy? It's kind of annoying.

labmule 05-30-2013 04:09 PM

Yes, she can be a dirty thief. I submit and take it off.

jeff_in_rc 05-30-2013 04:10 PM

It happens to me almost every day! When it does it is sitting in the back where the seat would be, JUST out of reach! LOL

A hat strap or cord to hold it on maybe?

Cascadian 05-30-2013 04:12 PM

I almost never wear hats, but maybe that's why so many Jeepers are fond of the boonie hats with the tie string.

JKmuder 05-30-2013 04:13 PM

Lol no!

I don't wear hats often either but like to protect my head with it's naturally thin hair from the sun. I end up removing it as speed increases. Don't know how you could prevent it other changing style of hat.

jg13jkur 05-30-2013 04:30 PM

With baseball caps, just wear the hat backwards and your jeep won't steal your hat. That's what I do.

Tried that, still steals my cap. Maybe it's my age-related loss of hair that's to blame? Youth is wasted on the young.

The only real solution...

Same here. No help.

I did that to... but I also switched to a velcro hat recently and its nice because I can easily tighten it up. But, sometimes when its really whippen from the sides I'll just take my hat off and toss it down over the 4x4 shifter...

Barmanvarn 05-30-2013 05:28 PM

No. The worst part is knowing that at the end of the season you'll have to put them back on. :)

aelwero 05-30-2013 06:08 PM

I've lost one hat and two pairs of glasses so far... switched to a boonie hat and have been wearing glasses with a strap on them to keep them on.

groovebus 05-30-2013 07:34 PM

I feel the wind tug on mine. So I just put it over the gear shift. I shave my head. That is the reason for the summer top; keeps my bald head from burning.

ironman2443 05-30-2013 10:36 PM

The worst thing is when a big truck goes by and that huge gust of wind comes in.

jwils 05-30-2013 10:41 PM

I always try and lean my head against the headrest for that very reason. Definitely picked up a sunglass strap the other day too, replacing sunglasses isn't cheap.

Raoul 05-30-2013 11:02 PM

My hat blew away long ago.
Didn't really bother me til I lost my comb.
Now I got to go buy one or the other.

Titaness 05-30-2013 11:04 PM

Not knowing what to wear! Since people will be admiring my jeeps summer wardrobe I need to make sure I look smoking without trying to look smoking.... Got to perfect this nuance

groovebus 05-30-2013 11:37 PM

I was thinking about how people use to wear a leather jacket, hat, gloves and goggles when they drove the Model A's down old, dirt stagecoach roads. I totally see why. I live in Southern CA and in the mornings I wear a coat and watch cap. I wear earplugs on the hwy too. I'm an Audio Recording Engineer, so being deaf isn't an option. And 70 mph winds next to big rig can make for some serious pressure on your ears.

indirocz28 05-30-2013 11:40 PM

Huh?

bmlbrewer 05-31-2013 12:15 AM

I've tried the hat backward thing to no avail. Doesn't even work when I'm in town. For now ill just get used to takin it off, but I vow to find a decent solution.

lulu2533 05-31-2013 12:25 AM

That it is illegal, in PA anyway.

alaska_av8r 05-31-2013 12:43 AM

We used to wear the milwright or welders hats like these https://www.google.com/shopping/prod...ed=0CHIQ8wIwAA not only do they come in cool designs but they are cheap as well, so if you do happen to lose one, just reach in the console and slip on a new one.

Today I was headed to base, doing 65 on the highway when suddenly my ID wiggles its way out of my left chest pocket and starts flying around my doorless/topless jeep. It lands right on my dash and I managed to grab it. No way in hell will I ever get that lucky again.

Lol. Gotta love "ruggedized" Velcro...

SurfKaster 05-31-2013 01:09 AM

The ball cap stays on the stick & the fishing hat is jammed between the soundbar & trektop. Outside of an aussie hat with strap, or stapling it to your forehead your options are limited.

Croakies! That's what sunglasses straps are called. I made some out of a drunk chicks bathing suite strap on spring break. Works actually really well.

Been there, done that. ACU Velcro blows.
