Boat Launch & Water fording.

Hello,
So a friend of mine at work yesterday and I were talking. He likes to fish and has a small fishing boat and trailer that he launches into the river with his Nissan Titan. Anyways,
we were looking at the idea, of using my Jeep to launch and recover the boat. The boat and trailer are small, proably not more then 1000 lbs ,so towing it is no problem. What we were talkingabout doing, if the river bed/depth ect permits, is driving forward down the boat ramp, and fording out the Jeep and boat trailer into the middle of the river, and launch the boat from there. Recovering the boat in the same mannor. We also talked about not useing a boat at all and just driving around a shallow part of the river fishing from the Jeep. :punk:

Of coruse we would hav to survery the river and stuff to make sure its not too deep or too soft of a bed. We would also have chains so his Titan can pull out my Jeep if it did get stuck.

Just wondering what things in the river should I look for / consider before doing/ attempting this. How deep would it be safe to go?

I have a '13 Rubicon Unlimited bone stock with a Manual Transmition

How well do the electronic lockers handle getting wet/submerged?
How about the Wheel Speed Sensors?

I can't for the life of me figure out why you would want to launch the boat that way.

Driving around fishing out of your Jeep doesn't sound good for the Jeep or the environment. River crossing should be done on an as needed basis.

Just my opinion.

This sounds like a bad scenario looking to happen.
Take lots of pictures.

You might want to ask Dirty Teddy his opinion on this one!

why?????? boats are meant for water, won't rust, and don't hurt the bottom of the river that many animals call home. jeeps/trucks aren't meant for water, will rot to h*ll if doing this alot, and will destroy the river bottom. if you already have a boat, back it in like a normal person, and enjoy not destroying both the river and your jeep

best case scenario, you kill many animal/homes (in turn killing your fishing), and rot your jeep frame in a few years of doing this
worst case scenario, you swamp your jeep, destroy your engine/transmission/frame, along with the river bed and alot of animals/homes, and possibly get arrested or a huge ass fine (in the thousands) for doing such (destroying nature is a HUGE NO NO!)

id give some serious thought about doing this

Haha we were only considering doing it once, maybe shoo a short video. Not staying in the water for very long at all.

Lol. If the river is deep enough for a boat, it's probably too deep for a Jeep. Launching head 1st sounds like it'd be a PITA. You've got the boat wanting to float, bow strap to untether, the trailer sans boat could want to float with the buoyancy of the tires.
