Winch Purchase for a JKUR 10 Anniversary Stock Bumper

Does anyone know which winch will fit the factory bumper? I would like this to be my first mod, but not sure which will fit? Also wondering if anything else will be required, like mounting bracket, or upgrade to the factory battery? Also this will be my first winch purchase and wondering ifI should be going with synthetic or not? Most likely looking at Warn, like the Zeon 8000-s or the 9.5cti, but not sure?

EAS13 06-03-2013 02:36 PM

Just took delivery of 10th anniversary two door. Went to dealer service department to see about getting winch installed (similar to one shown on Jeep website). Was told that in order to mount a winch, the bumper would have to be replaced. Jeep is aware of the fact that a winch cannot be mounted on the 10th anniversary bumper and is working on a fix. Anyone else have different info on mounting winch on factory bumber?

crawlin_archer 06-03-2013 08:45 PM

You sure about that? I'm pretty sure you just have to buy the winch mount kit for the bumper. It's like $250-$200 I think. I'll ask parts if I can remember tomorrow. The bumper is based off the MW3 & MOAB bumper & to mount a winch on those bumpers you just need the winch mount kit from Mopar. It's what they call a "winch capable" bumper, meaning if somethign is added to it, it's then capable of holding a winch. Where as a "winch ready" bumper is ready out of the box w/o additional pieces. I think your service dept. doesn't know what they are talking about & instead of asking someone to check they just want to sound all knowing. I hate those kind of people at dealerships, they give us a bad rap & I take my pride in working on my jeeps that I love.

EAS13 06-04-2013 12:04 AM

I believe the issue was the winch mount kit from Mopar doesn't exist for the 10th Anniversary bumper.

JKUR10A 06-04-2013 02:09 AM

Okay I have done a bit of research, and yes the bumper is winch capable, however needs a mounting plate. You can either have someone custom fit a mounting plate or wait for a production one to be made. Their is at least one company making these right now and I expect several other will be doing this in the future as well.

First, NO ONE (corporate) makes a winch plate/winch mount kit for the 10th ann JRUB. I have been in contact with every company in the US/AUS.

Even the Mopar version is not available, even though a part number exists. The problem is similar to last years's MW3 jeep-bumper.

Drop me a not if you want more data, but the only play right now is having a custom built plate/mount kit and you are 100% right on the offset. It's subtle, but it's there.

If no company makes a winch plate for it then why do I have a winch plate on my JKUR10A and why is Maximus-3 (maximus-3) selling one?:hide:

Someone deleted the thread I bet due to the company I was talking about isn't a sponsor of the forum (so dumb by the admins). Funny how if I want to discuss a product that is not related to a sponsor the admins will sensor you... :hide:

So, if I get that setup for a regular 2012 JKU (Not the 10A), do you think the winch will hold, if used in a recovery situation? Is it strong enough?

I don't know anything about their setup for the non 10a parts but if it is anything like the parts for the 10a I wouldn't be surprised if they are built to withstand just about anything. :punk:

Maximus is installing my winch plate, winch and grill guard (hoop) this morning. They offered to install the whole setup for free if I let them take some marketing photos for thier website. :thumb:

Hey JKR10A......how about a little credit when you copy and paste my post like that. At least delete my name from the stolen text before you claim it as your own. :banghead:

LOL, hey Caveman I'm don't know how I even did that. I was moving your post over to this thread for others to see. Damn copy right laws!

I could not find any info on the winch itself. What is it rated?

No sweat JKUR19A. :D

I just got back from having that same setup installed and I couldn't be happier. The winch Maximus installed for me even included the red synthetic winch line. That setup is heavy duty! I helped them install the whole thing. It even included a wireless remote in addition to the wired one. The only thing that blew my mind a little was having to cut the opening in the bumper bigger to center the hause fairlead. Jeep designed the opening (way) off center. the kit included a fairlead centering plate, so it's all good. here are some pics. :thumb:

The winch is made by Moto Alliance and rebadged Maximus. it's rated at 10K for the first layer of line on the spool. we tested it out and the line speed is decent. it came with a 2 year warrenty and, supposedly, it's made in the U.S.A. although I couldn't find any proof of that.

Here is a link to the manufacturers web page. the 10K model isn't listed for sale, but there is a spec sheet.

There are two more attatchment points in the front using the same bolts as the bumper. these are attatched to the frame as well. I found the whole assembly to be very sturdy and secure. The winch plate itself was 1/4 inch thick (thicker than the frame tubing) steel plate welded and bent for strength. They tested the prototype with a load cell in place to ensure the security and robustness of the attatchment points. I questioned it as well while we were installing it. It's a small design firm near my house that designed and installed my winch plate and winch. The engineer that designed the whole set up installed it for me. :D

Does anyone know if the Maximus winch plate will work with Warn winches? I am thinking of getting the zeon 10S or the 8S. Also I predict that the 8s will be good to winch out myself and other fellow jeepers, but do I need a 10s to help larger rigs on a single line pull?
