what size tire?
 
well I know there are plenty of threads on tire sizes, but i thought id get some of my questions cleared up with one.

so i just put in a 2 inch spacer lift on my '98 wrangler and now i have the jeep bug crawling under my skin.

so what size tire can i fit now?
can i use stock size rims?
for the top size i can fit, would i need to regear? and if so, to a novice how hard would it be?

im not planning on updating until spring/summer but i really want to know what im getting into first, and keep an eye on prices and try to get the best deal.

w/ a 2" lift you can fit 31's. yes you can use the stock rims. no you lhouldn't have to regear w/ that size tire. I have a 2005 w/ the 2" bb and 31's and 3.73 gears and it does just fine off road. there is no loss of power or anything like that.

I run 31's on no lift on my sons 97. I ran 33's on a 2" BB on my 02 long ago

i'm no tj guru, but 33's on a 2"bb is kinda tight. especially w/ stock wheels.

$50 soft 8's for 33x12.50

33's on a 2" bb will fit, but just barely, i've found that even 32's on that set up is a little tight. do you get a lot of rub?

i like soft 8's.

btt, i think 31's are a nice fit, there's room in the fender, and it will have room to flex if you wheel it. i'd go 32 max, but keep in mind, most people build in stages, you'll probably be addicted and go to a 4" lift soon. if you think thats the case, either buy cheap 31's now, or stuff the 33's in there.

oh gosh, another link. definately not reading all that.

ok, up travel doesn't help flex. umm, getting your fender and flare away from tire should help, and being able to turn on tight trails without rubbing control arms and stuff should help also.

fender flares are rubber they will flex out of the way

ok, so you post a link about building a low center gravity rig. big deal. and you can't say uptravel doesn't help flex, when one side goes up the other goes down. the theory they speak of is stopping the uptravel before it rubs, to increase down travel. fine. well downtravel can only go so far with the other side stopped, eventually the tire just goes in the air, and then loses all traction.

no one is even talking about lcg, try to keep the links relevant, now you're bugging me with all your links, and thats tough.

you have a grasp on suspension travel. If you read the JF post you'll better understand why up travel is irrelevant except to a small group of high speed wheelers.

i read them, trust me, i have a grasp. but lets consider what this post is about.

a newer jeep owner and his first real mod, a 2" budget boost. now if he goes and throws 33's on there, they're stuffed, and if he wheels it its gonna rub. if he throws some 31's on it, it will flex and not rub, and he'll have a good ole time.

now if you're telling me a tj w/ 2" budge boost and 33's is gonna wheel great you're gonna have to convince me. you can't have good downtravel with the other end having little room to move.

I can't convince you if you refuse to accept the premise that it's even possible. I can tell you I have done it, and it works.

man, i've spent way too much time on my computer this saturday evening.

i am not refusing anything, and lcg theory is fine. but we're not really there right now. personally i like the theory, but its a balance. i prefer making a suspension as limitless as possible, i don't turn out the turnstops, and i don't use bumpstops.

we'll have to see what does better on the trail, maximum suspension travel, or limited travel.

i think 31's would be great.
im on a tight budget for the next few months but wanna get a pair of cheapos on for the spring, with the hope up upgrading when funds get available :)

if bought used, what amount of tread would you stop at? is 70% fine for now, i imagine ive probably have around the same on my current set up.

reason ive brought that up is this:Bronco F-150 Tires and Rims 31x10.50R15LT

theyre 31x10.50R15LT for $200

31 are fine with the 2'' bb. If that's what you like.

The wheels from the F150 will NOT work on your jeep. You can use the tires but that is it.

those are futura tires, pep boys house brand. pretty cheap tires, and the one pic looks less than 70% tread left. i think its a good idea to get a used set to keep cost low. check pep boys to see what they go for, i think the price is hi. and you will have to pay to get them mounted and balanced on your jeep wheels.
