TSF Run on WEDNESDAY 6-26-13

Okay so this one is dedicated to all those peeps who get the shaft working on weekends all the time, myself included lately. Now that I appear to be getting out of the stormy seas at work, I've got the fever to head out wheeling a little bit. Here's the details below. I am sure it will be dusty, I hope it will be sunny, I know it will be fun.:)

Date: Wednesday June 26, 2013
Time: Gather and leave the North Plains Chevron around 8-830. Plan on leaving the lot by 0830 and waving to all the poor souls going the wrong way on US26 into the city to work while we wheel. If you want to wave something else other than your hand, or a certain finger, that's your call:)
Take US 26 West to Exit 57 and turn right to the Chevron on the left and meet in the lot in back.
Level: All levels are welcome, newbie, experienced, anyone bringing a positive attitude with patience and a good comfort level for playing in dirt. Intermediate may be ideal, but really it will depend on who shows up since it is a weekday.
Trails: I hope to literally have the whole park to ourselves minus the logging activity and trucks, so I plan on coming in from the West with these trails in mind
Archers
Archers Hill Climb
Rock Garden
Rocky Uphill
Hogs Back
Firebreak 5
Cedar Tree
University Firepower or Powerline
Bates Road
(The last three based on time allowing)

Who can come: This will be an open hospitality run, so Wranglers of course, other Jeeps such as Cherokees, and Grand Cherokees are welcome. Other peeps' with 'Yotas or 'Sammies are welcome too, I would prefer against larger vehicles like no Blazers, Humvees, Full size Broncos, full size Pick-ups, etc.
Gear: Water- to drink and to clean up and in case of fire, mechanically sound rig, positive attitude and excitement, shovel, food/lunch/snacks, full tank of gas, fire extinguisher, CB or FRS radio, sun tan lotion, flip flops, anything that reinforces the fact you are not working that day.:)

Plan on spending the whole day there only to come back in time and see all the poor souls driving home from work while we whiz back in town like Pigpen with dust and dirt galore looking like we had fun because we will.:) I plan on going top down but if it rains, just as good because that means wheeling in mud and no dust.:) Either way, I plan on going and so should you.:)

Who wants to go??:)

Billybaldin 06-05-2013 03:41 AM

My normal days off are tues. and wed. Lately however by some strange act of something unknown I have weekends off. If that changes before the 26th I will join in on the run.

FireMike 06-05-2013 09:07 PM

If I get my rear pinion bearing fixed by then I am in. So as of right now i'm am tentatively in.

Anyone know a good place to get a Dana 44? PM me if you do thanks :)

05TJ2NV 06-05-2013 09:19 PM

SCORE ! Unless the Moon phases alter my current direction, count me and the Mrs. In !

R51 06-05-2013 09:35 PM

Count me in as a strong maybe. I actually have to work late that afternoon, but I could probably stay till noon or so. I'm also trying really hard to have my lift done by then.:D
I will know better in a few weeks but I will plan to be there.

skjeeper 06-07-2013 09:13 AM

Sweet!

Looks like I probably won't be going it alone on that day!:)

With all the sunshine, I honestly can't wait until the 26th, but then again, around here the weather can certainly change on short notice. Either way, I am sure we will have fun fun fun!

What would be the best time to meet at the Shell gas station just before Browns camp?

Hmmmm, that's a good question. I plan on meeting in the morning at 8AM-815AM at the Chevron gas station at North Plains, just west of Hillsboro. (US 26 West to Exit 57, turn right and go north, and it's immediately on your left hand side next to the McDonalds.). There I will take a head count and see what trails people want to do and have a sign in sheet for safety. By 830AM sharp, I will be hitting the road and going to TSF. Meeting all at once makes it easier to stay in a group, also if we have to break up into smaller groups, we can decide there.
If you are going to be at the Gales Creek Shell Station, we can radio ahead via CB so you can see us coming, but I don't really want to be stopping there or other places. I'd say about 9ish if we leave the Chevron at 830AM. As the date gets closer, I'll be posting the CB channel and see how many people are coming, etc.

Hope this helps:)

Sweet! Congrats on finishing up the lift. I am sure the Wednesday run will give your suspension a little work out and testing!

See ya this Wednesday!:)

That sucks, at least those parts are easily replaced (ball joints and rod ends), or rebuilt (j-joints). The only bummer is the wrench time or wrenching in your driveway while knowing people are out there playing.:) Kind of like having to mow the yard and do chores when you were a kid while your friends were out playing and having a good time.:)

Hope to see you Wednesday scooby!

Did the snap ring come out on the Johnny Joint? If so, file a claim on the warranty - I just went through that process with Rokmen, and they had Currie send me a new control arm end. You'll have to let them know which end, left or right hand.

Currie had a bad batch (caused by the milling/groove process where the snap ring groove had a rounded lip) out sometime last year.

Count me in as a maybe... :-) fwiw.

Billybaldin 06-15-2013 01:04 PM

I am still a for sure maybe. So far I am thinking I am off that day so it looks good. Looking forward to it.

Sweet! Does this mean you are still coming along next Wednesday? Not sure how many people are finally going to go, lot's of strong "maybe's" but will still be a decent sized group I think.

I just serviced my rig, changed the oil and greased my Johnny Joints, now it won't sound like a bird is chirping under my Jeep when I roll over rocks...:)

See ya all next Wednesday the 26th!

Update for Wednesday

Hey fellow Jeepers, looks like we are still on for this Wednesday. I plan on basically doing the same route we just did last Sunday. I think we will be okay, that morning we will double check what trails/level of difficulty we want to do. Of course we can increase or decrease the trail difficulty as the day goes by and weather permitting.
We will have to be careful driving around TSF, there is active logging in many areas so we will have to watch out for trucks, equipment, and people.
Aside from that, get ready to get dirty!:)

That is a good route :punk:!

Interestingly Sunday's hill climb on University Firepower was more difficult (hence FUN) compared to Archer's "Hill of Doom" and Firebreak 5.

05TJ2NV 06-25-2013 11:25 AM

See ya all at 0800

There is a long hill that is mostly clay / dirt I believe its either part of or nearby Hogsback, could this be the same hill Island is talking about ? I was on it a few times last week, was so fun I had to do it a multiple times, very slippery and crawling didn't work, you needed some momentum. It was directly off a main road and about 100 yrds long of slippery FUN

Not sure, I guess we will find out this Wednesday. The only hill near Hogsback that I recall is the blue section of 7-up. It has a nice little hill climb on the backside. I haven't had the courage to go up the black section yet.:)

See ya fellas-

Looks like I am out, I've been sick the last three days and haven't had the time or willpower to put my jeep back together. Have fun out there and be safe!
