To Lift or Not to Lift

I know the lift issue has been discussed and debated many times on the forum. This is my most simple question, hopefully. On my 99 TJ Sahara, 4.0, 5 spd, totally stock except for 31x10.50x15 wheels and tires...is there any way to stiffen up the ride a bit and level out the stance without employing a lift? Would new shocks help? New OEM springs? Or would it work best with say, a 2" BDS lift and OME or Bilstein shocks? I don't want to get into accounting for tracking and steering and driveline issues as I do mostly offload trails with little or no serous rock climbing. I want to eventually add a winch and perhaps new bumpers. but now I need new tires, so this has begun the discussion in my mind. Whatever advice you all might offer would be greatly appreciated and prevent me from making a mistake that I would regret.

I went with H&R coil springs, which gained me about an 1 1/2 " inches of lift and a 1 inch body lift just so I could avoid all the driveline issues. Also added the Bilstein shocks. Very happy with the ride and feel. Good Luck

Thanks. I'll check them out.

I'm thinking along the same lines for my 97 Sahara but need to do it in phases. I have been running the 31x10.50x15 tires for a while now and I'm planning to do just the 1" body lift with a 1" MML for fan clearance. The only thing I haven't seen discussed is with no suspension lift does the MML change the drive line angle too much that it will vibrate because it is too much the other way now? I know that if you suspension lift it can reduce the cap handle you need to do a TC drop.

I have been looking at the BDS 2" lift which includes shocks and bump stops for about the same $ as the H&R. I'm wondering how they compare for ride & durability.

I recently installed the 2"BDS suspension lift (BDS springs and shocks) on my TJ. It improved the ride and lifted my Jeep enough to work with 32 x 11.5 x 15 BFG ATs. I am very pleased with the results so far.

Did you have to do any other mods or is it just simply take the old springs and shocks off, pop the new ones on, and you're ready to go? Also, where did you buy it?

No other work was done. Just replaced shocks and springs. Took about 4 hours. I purchased the kit at BDS Suspension.

No surprises. :D
