TJ towing

1 Attachment(s)
I have 2002 TJ on 31, I am looking to tow my john boat behind my jeep, and I don't have a hitch of any sort. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should get or need? This is a picture of the back.

I have a Hidden Hitch that I had to remove because it was in the way of the Dynomax Catback exhaust tailpipe. I wanted to install an American-made bumper that was rated for towing, but have yet to find one. I might just get another hitch. Here is one offers a little more clearance for a CB exhaust: http://www.curtmfg.com/part/13408 .

I got this one from etrailer. It was extremely simple to install and its pretty nice for the price. This site also has wires and anything else you might need for it.

My Hiddem Hitch looks much stouter and it protected the rear in case of a rear ending. Too bad it got in the way of the exhaust.

In order to use any of these I would have to replace the rear bumper correct?

I have a Smittybilt bumber - tire carrier with a 2" receiver. I tow a ton of pellet fuel without a problem. I've also towed a load of oak. I'm happy with it.

No the ones in the link would mount to the frame and be just below the bumper

You shouldn't have to. I had no problem with mine. If your bumper sticks down too far though it might be in the way of the hitch. mine has plenty of clearance below it though and it works great.

Unsullied hitch

what the heck did my phone do. I meant uhaul hitch

Im looking at putting a hitch on my TJ as well. As far as bolting it on, that seems straight forward but what about running wires for lights and all (forgive me for never looking) is a TJ already wired to accept a hitch?

I had the same style tube but black. I had a mopar tow package on there until I changed out the bumpers to a Shittybilt one that has the receiver in the bumper. I used a slight drop hitch on both w no interference w the tube when I had it on. I hauled wood and my boat all the time w both of them. Haven't had any issue yet. Now my tow package is just sitting around collecting dust.

On another note, why r u running ur license plate over the tailgate handle? Is that new anti-theft device that I haven't read about? I know here in Minnesota that'd be an instant police stop at nite cause of no license plate light.

If you stop by a UHAUL location, they can wire if it is not already wired. They can also install a hitch.

I got mine from Uhaul and had them install. It's a lifetime warranty for anything that goes wrong.. INCLUDING WIRING!! So if anything goes wrong, They will fix it for free..

That's a pretty sweet deal. Thanks for sharing.

Another vote for U-Haul. Got the hitch, wiring, and they installed it all for under $200 a few years back. Great warranty.
