I found an ad on Craigslist for a Ford 8.8 4.10 gears and an LSD for $250. But I'm at 33's and at some point upgrade to 35's. This is also for a weekend off roading. Should I go for it?

If you are comfortable welding brackets or a truss then go for it. The 8.8 is stronger than the dana 44

When I decided to upgrade my TJ, I initially purchased an 8.8. Mine, too, had 4.10 gears along with LSD, but I got it for $150. I also bought the Artec 8.8 truss kit, that includes the TJ brackets. Excellent kit that takes all of the guess work out of bracket placement. If you go the 8.8 route, I would highly recommend this kit.

I ended up selling the 8.8 before installation because I got a smoking deal on an HPD30/D44 combo that were already geared to 4.88 and had OX lockers.

I'm not going to get into the whole D44/Ford 8.8 debate on which is better, stronger, etc. Just keep in mind its not bolt-in and you'll end up spending some coin before its bolt-in ready (brackets, calipers/rotors, flange/yoke for attachment to your drive shaft, etc.) FWIW, I ended up investing ~ $750 in mine. I will further say if you plan to be on 33s for some time, you will likely lose some clearance due to the larger 8.8 pumpkin. Depending on your wheeling style, this may or may not present a problem.

I'm sure you would be very happy with the 8.8, provided you understand it will be a project and provided you have the skills or connections to see it through.

When upgrading to 35" I should still be ok with the 44?

Yea, there's a Dana 44 with OX lockers and 4:88 gears as well, but heard that OX is decent, though not the greatest. That's why I've stayed away. But maybe I'm wrong?

OX lockers are fine but can be hard to engage sometimes. ARB's are awesome. And yes a Dana 44 can stand up to 35" tires locked with no problems with a stock engine. If you start going crazy with it or have a big engine in front of it, you could end up breaking it, but I'm not sure I have heard of someone breaking a Dana 44 on 35's

I've been running front and rear OXs for 1-2 years now without problem. It is possible to have cable actuation issues but I've been good. I also have drive-away locks that allow you to actuate right at the diff if you have cable issues.

And I run 35s on my D44 no problem whatsoever.

I talked with my local shop and he's running Grizzly front and rear with no problems. How is this? I was told that it is like Yukon but stronger and they have a 2k collateral warranty where they will replace or repair any issues should the locker break.
