Posible u joint??

Hey guys I know there have been plenty of "what does this sound like" questions posted and I know I've even seen this same one but can't find it in the app.

97 4.0 5speed.. 30&35's on axles... New front drive shaft u joints and knuckle.

At first while turning I would get a tick tick sound from the front. Now it has turned into a tick tick while driving straight and big time while turning.

I'm thinking axle u joints but don't know. Right now I'm 30 miles from home on a date with the wife. Hope I get home.

Yup, axle u-joints.

Wondering how bad can they be before having a serious problem?

For me, I limped home after wheeling and the cap completely came off and the trunnion slopped and gouged the yoke and kept hitting the wheel bearing bolts, effectively filing away all 3 bolt heads...

Oh that's not cool!! I hope I'm a little luckyer than that.

replace both sides as soon as you can and might do the driveshaft joints as well...if you have duct tape with ya I suppose you could wrap the area over the caps enough to perhaps give some extra help to get home with..though not sure how much that would help.

Duct tape??

x2, I did the duct tape immediately after leaving the trail but halfway between the trail area and home the tape slipped from the centrifugal forces and the 2 caps flew out :nonono:.

Well guys, I made 'er back. 12:45am and it was COLD! They held together but I think I'll have to operate on 'em in the next little while. Have to just keep it around town or in the garage until then.
Thanks for your input and if you have anymore... By all means....

Thanks again.
