I have a 93 wrangler 4.0 with the ax15 an an np231 t case cruised kinda hard with my buddy tonight an I get home an smell burnt ATF the output shaft seal was leaking bad so I go to feel it an the extension housing is insanely hot any ideas as to what it might be for the excessive heat?

You sure it didn't just get slung into the muffler by the drive shaft??? When the output shaft leaks it will travel onto the yoke and splatter onto the muffler. Take a good look.

Yeah it was leakin bad from the output shaft seal so my thought was why did it creat so much head to cook that seal

If you are saying that the transfer case itself got hot then I would be inspecting the amount of fluid still in the transfer case. Hopefully no damage was done if it was real low. The good news is that the seal is relatively easy to replace. Undo the bolts on the rear universal. Put electrical tape to hold the end caps of the universal joint in place while it is out of the yolk. Pull the drive axle to the rear and it will slide out of the transfer case. Use a seal puller to pull the seal out. I used a piece of abs plastic pipe to tap the new seal into place. Put the drive shaft back up. Done.

Come to find out I cracked the slip joint an I'm not sure how I think the splines slipped
Time to inspect the output shaft splines carefully. Maybe a transfer case from a junker is in the offing. Getting a new output shaft may be pricy. Is your jeep lifted? May be the cause of the broken slip joint. May have stressed it near the end of its travel on or near full extension of the wheels while under power.

I have a 4 inch rough country lift an this drive shaft isn't stock so it is longer than stock but still not sure how it broke

The crack looks to be towards the end of the slip joint. The wear on the surface of the slip joint appears to be towards the end. The surface worn silver is an indicator of where the seal has ridden. The rusted part appears to have been maintained outside of the area where the seal is. This looks like the slip joint spent most of the time working at its end of travel and not fully engaged.
