Lug nuts

Guys,

If I want to get some open ended lug nuts for the rims on my wrangler, do I need a certain size depending on the rims or is there a stock size for wranglers?

1/2"x20 is the thread size for a TJ Wrangler. Most wheels use tapered base lug nuts, match the shape of the lug nut opening base on the wheel. It'll be either flat or tapered, pick the type that matches your wheel.

The reason I ask is because....

I put some rims and tires from my truck over to my wrangler today. I am coming off the highway and my driver side front tire comes flying off. It was unreal.

I bring the jeep over to pep boys to see what they are thinking. They told me it probably wasn't tightened enough and that the lug nuts I had don't have enough room to tighten on the posts ?

He told me to get some open ended because they are smaller and will go further down on the post.

These are just american racing rims that seem to fit fine. The only difference being that there is more room on the posts of the truck then there is on the wrangler. Will the open ended lug nuts do the trick or are these rims not for a wrangler?

I do not want to experience what happened today again!

Start looking for some "ET" lug nuts which are Extended Thread so they engage more of the stud's threads. Like those at Billet Specialties - ET Style Lug Nuts in a 1/2"x20 thread size.

questions i have

1. is the hub size the same? maybe they do fit over the lugs, but it doesnt fit on the hub all the way making the lugs seem shorter or whatever

2. did you or your dad use a torque wrench when you put the lug nuts on?
