starter problems
Have a 2008 JK 4dr. About 2 weeks ago started having intermittent problems with the starter. Acting like it had a bad spot in the winding so would start on first try some times and have to click it 10 to 15 times others. Replaced starter and relay but still have the issue. Has anyone else ran into this ?

I had something like this happen to me recently. Battery was fine, starter replaced, and still acting up. Sometimes it would start, sometimes it wouldn't, sometimes the engine would turn over but never start.

I had a shop add an additional ground strap from the negative terminal of my battery to a bolt on the alternator. Since I have done this, it has started every time. Hook up a jumper cable from your negative battery terminal to someone elses' negative battery terminal, or a ground on your frame. if it starts up with this cable attached, then your battery needs to be grounded better.

Check ground as mentioned above. Also could be worn ignition switch.

I am having the same problems with my 2007.. Assumed it was the battery so got it replaced last week. Today... It took 3 times to start again ;( Someone at work said it could be my after market stereo... Sounds like I wasted $145 on a Mopar battery ;(

Have an 07 with the same problem. After a couple of months of clinking and clashing, the started shot it wad. Now the new starter is making the same noises.....I'm wondering when it's gonna go out again.

Ignition switch?? That should be easy enough. Ground strap?? That too. Maybe.

PS....It's all stock, so it's apparently something of a "Jeep thing".

Don't forget that replacing your battery will not work if it is not grounded properly. The first thing I would do is connect a cable to the negative terminal of your battery and the other end to a grounded contact point, like someone elses neg. battery terminal.

The problems that I had are really similar to yours, and it is a known thing to happen on jeeps.
