Don't know if you're new to wheeling or just new to SD. I did a long post for another newbie (here
) and you can check it out.
As for easy trails, if you're still a newbie, here are some fun runs for you and your wife or ladyfriend:
- Palomar Mountain, Nate Harrison Grade - unbeatable views, and you'll beat the heat.
- McCain Valley - nice views and lets you see what the desert mountains are like in the east. Pretty hot out there now but early mornings are gorgeous.
- Pamo Valley, north of Ramona -- I think this is the best-kept secret in the county. The Santa Ysabel Truck Trail is easy but fun for newbies. Also, take Blake Mountain Truck Trail to the top and Lusardi Truck Trail to the end. Again, if you're a newbie Black Mtn will seem daunting but it isn't. You'll be glad you did it.
There won't be a lot of info on the blogs but Google satellite and Google Earth will give you everything you need.
The 4x4 books at the local 4x4 stores are fine but I outgrew them after the first year, because most of the trails in it are bunny trails. Check out my blog for some more challenging trails (in the signature block). Most of theses are not in the standard books. I try to be pretty thorough.
If you're looking for bigger challenges, send me a reply (private or otherwise) and I'll try and steer you. You'll need to tell me what part of the county you're in.
