2013 wrangler Rattle

Hi All,

I purchased a new Wrangler unlimited Rubicon two months ago. Three weeks ago I noticed an annoying rattle when I go over bumps/rough pavement. It appears to be coming from the drivers side dash/door. I took the door off and it still made the noise. I looked under the dash for loose wires, and didn't find any. I then removed the side dash access panel and didn't find anything loose.

Finally I took it back to the dealer. They said the rear door latch was the cause and readjusted it. It still made the noise. Three dealer trips later and they still can't find it. Any ideas? Thanks

Dealing w the exact same problem. Step on rails and bounce jeep around. I was able to pinpoint where it was coming from that way. For me it was the sway bar rattling around. Damn annoying going over bumps. You either need it tightened or replaced.

Trenty,

I will try that, Thank you!!

I sat in the drivers seat and had my friend jump on the bumper and shake the crap out of it, no noise. Only when hit a bump, which makes me think its an interior rattle.

Hmm damn. I tightened up the end links on my sway bar this morning; fixed my rattle :( sorry man.

I found another dealer to take it to. Hopefully it gets fixed, I will post the cause of the noise when I find out what it is

I have a 2012 Sahara Unlimited. I have had it a year. Just a month ago, I started hearing a double rattle sound somewhere in the driver side door column, when I hit short quick bumps. Big bumps don't make it rattle. I had the dealer replace the door post cover, but 2 days later, it made the same noise again. I even put foam tape between the plastic covers, replace some plastic holding pins, but the noise returns.
It s truly annoying when you can't figure out what causes a simple rattle sound that happens only on short quick bumps.
I too would like to find an answer.

I've got a 2011 Rubicon that makes a rattle under the driver side when I run over small bumps or rough pavement. I don't think it's in the interior and it did it with the doors off to, so sounds underneath.

I'd like to try tightening the end links on the sway bar - but not sure where to find the bolts (other than underneath the front of the Jeep).

Anything else I can check? It almost sounds like its on the drivers side more in the middle/back underneath the rear seat, or around the back left tire.

Update. This morning I put some electrical tape on the door column latch catch, and it actually stop the mysterious door column rattle. So if you have a weird door column noise when hitting small bumps, and you have replaced the door column cover, the plastic hold pins and put foam under all covers, and it still rattles, the problem can probably be fixed easily by you by merely adding a little electrical tape to the metal catch on the driver door column. What a relief.
Hope this helps someone else.

Wayne2U,

Thanks for the tip. I tryed it right before I dropped it off at the new dealer, unfortuntaly it didn't work. Glad it work for you, this noise is driving me crazy

Fastbaill 06-20-2013 07:46 PM

The dealer: We removed the driver side door, folded down the windshield and completely removed the dash. We reassembled everything piece by piece test driving to see what part caused the rattle. We found one bolt in the dash that required a quarter turn to tighten.

The rattle is now gone, but if it every returns, they will have to call in a Chrysler engineer. Jeep complains that it takes 8 hours to fix a rattle.

This is exactly what's happening with my new 10 A!

Mine turned out to be a loose GraBar even though it felt tight when grabbed.

See my recent post under "Does anyone else's driver door rattle?" Since you've isolated it to the latch/striker, the grease will fix it.
