Timing knock

I have a 98 tj and it has a slight knock to it. I asked a buddy to look at it and he immediately said it was a timing knock. Have you guys heard of this before and is it harmful and how can I get rid of it?

A better description would help. By timing knock do you mean to say pre-ignition or detination? Or do you mean something to do with the timng chain?

Danger Danger per the 4.0 L Timing Chain Life thread timing chains for the 4.0 never wear out and people get very angry when you talk about it.
