My gear doesn't shift with TJ 06

Hi All,

I just bought a TJ 06 Auto. Sometimes the car goes crazy and gear doesn't change. Sometimes I stop the car aside and switch off everything and turn on again and it works sometimes. The gear doesn't move above 2.

The engine noise becomes too high and rpm will go above 4 or even 5.

I changed gear oil and filter but still the same.

Please help!!!!

Was this problem evident during the test drive? By any chance did you drive through rocker depth water?

I just drove it in desert for about 3 hours. It was not there in the test drive.

Should I test the gear via computer?

Some people are advising to change the linkage cable, please advise

Thanks

The linkage shouldn't matter since its an auto, once its in drive everything is done internally with the atf. I would try a hard reset of the computers, disconnect the battery overnight and see if that helps. You may have just gotten some crap in the ports and channels and its either restricting or blocking the fluid from allowing it to work properly. The computer may just be fried, or the tranny is just mechanically broken. My money is on computer or some sort of gunk in the system.
