Impress In-Law YJ Rebuild

Engine Swap 95 YJ;;
So I got 95 2.5L Wrangler from my future father in-law recently. I love the thing with only 90,000 miles no major damage tags are good for another 2 years and he gave it to me for a steal; whats not to love right? Wrong. the thing is a slug! Some how this 4 cylinder barley gets over 65 on the freeway (god forbid i go uphill) and its getting like 11 mpg. I dont know much about cars but I do have all the tools and a few friends that screw around with minor stuff but i want to completely recreate this thing. I will be doing a little off road stuff (%15) I live in California so lots of freeway, I.E. i need speed (dont worry about emissions i register my vehicles at a family members place in a different state with no emissions) and i would like to get 15+ mpg. Oh yeah and it has a auto tranny i want a 5 speed manual. I know the two key things i will need is an engine and a tranny. What I am looking for is a full list of the types of parts i am going to need to buy an suggestions on engine/tranny makes and sizes?

head over to the yj board and look threw the threads on motor swaps, lots of info. The best thing to do is read as much as you can look at other build threads and see what has worked. The options are limitless and everyone has a different opinion on what works best.
