Bigger rear view mirror?

Good Morning,

A new member here, I purchased my 2003 TJ about 9 months ago and wonder why I waited all these years to buy my first. This forum also has been a tremendous help in fixing the few things broken and give me a view of the things which are possible. (Installed a RB1 Nav unit in this past weekend after seeing it on the forum :))

Which leads me to a question for our group about the rear view mirror. The rear view mirror only allows a half window view, does a larger rear view mirror exist which would allow one to see out of the entire back window? Am I the only one who notices this?

Cheers,
Greg

Not sure if you will get the same results as the JK, but flipping the mirror has been a big help to me, you can at least give it a shot. Just rotate it 180 degrees.

I installed one of these on my JK mirror.Works pretty good.

Nope, never had any rear vision problems.. I've always found that if all the mirrors are adjusted "properly" ( for a novice it takes two people, one on the ground walking in half circle around the rear of the vehicle) there are no vision problems.. I find mirror extensions and enhancements to be a complete waste of money..

I've never had any problems with my interior or exterior mirrors.
Basicly I agree with Rubicon Don.

I had a wink mirror laying around. It's a 5 panel rear view mirror that eliminates most every blind spot. Works decent with the top up, really nice with the top off. It vibrates a bit but not bad. I originally got it when I was making fun of my Honda buddy. I was going to put it in my car but it sat for years till I found it and threw it in the jeep.

I looked at it,,, what's the point of overlapping your vision in the exterior mirrors? Am I surrounded by brain dead zombies that fall prey to every quirky little marketing gimmick? If your mirrors are adjusted properly there are no blind spots, unless one has very poor peripheral vision, then one may have to glance out the front passenger side window.... If you need to see more than 1 lane over on either side of you, then you are driving illegally when you change more than 1 lane at a time. In which case, if one insists upon breaking the law and endangering lives, then go and by those little convex mirrors tha attach to the exterior mirrors... The next thing, you'll be telling everyone to look over their shoulder while driving. Jeeeesh !!

Bonus points for referencing Stripes! Sgt Hulka was awesome

Damn, there's some douchebaggery going on up in here.
The Wink mirrors are nice. I used to see them a lot when I was into baja bugs.

What are you all saying rotate 180? Does that really make a difference upside down? BTW I am an experienced mirror adjuster I just like to ride with the doors off and don't have side mirrors yet.

Yes. I did the rearview mirror flip. It improves vision out of the front window.

Broadway clip on. They work great..

Even with "properly adjusted" mirrors it's always nice to have a little better coverage.

Cool, how did you know that my real name is Francis ??? LOL,, ;). Pardon me, for being adamantly opposed to the aftermarket mirror helper things... I'm a pro driver, and encounter 10s of thousands of cars, jeeps, minivans and pickups every week... It may be a stereotype, but in general, drivers with all the mirror gizmology are usually very poor drivers, and the one that I have to watch out for... ;)

I did mine just to see if it would help. It does for both front and rear. If it doesn't work for you then spin it around again.

Thanx Tdog02 for getting the Stripes reference....you've revealed your age too. Lol Sgt. Hulka is our big toe:)

Thanks for everyone's reply (albeit it very late on my part) I absolutely love my jeep and think I may go ahead and mock up a larger (higher) mirror which will allow me to see the full rear view. Its one of those things to do, just to see if it even matters. I'll post it once completed.

Stay thirsty my friends.....LOL
