Engine quote

I just got a quote on a 2.5l engine for my 89 wrangler...for a engine with 125xxx miles they want 870 out the door and shipped or for a 98xxx mile engine out the door and shipped for a grand what do you guys think. Is this a decently priced quote

I think I would call local engine machine shops and see what they would charge to rebuild yours. I think it would come in the same price or cheaper.

I just had one done a month ago and it was 1250

with all the time effort and aggravation and a complete donor 4.0
it might be easier to sell yours and just buy a stock 4.0 and put in another lift
and other bolt ons that you had on your 2.5

That's what I thought -__- I'm a poor college kid right now so I need to find the best thing for the cheapest right now since my car isn't even running right now

im right their with you thats why i havent done it - the college im working a mere 10$/hr job paying bills, slowly saving money, fixing little things on my jeep all while i try to get an electrical apprenticeship to start a career

Jrgarcia715 06-22-2013 08:56 PM

Ya the minimum wage where my college is at us 725 an hour so I'm not making anything I'm barely getting by and since I got up to college 3 months ago my jeep has given me nothing but problems

MightBeDJ 06-22-2013 09:01 PM

thats rough. whats wrong with your engine?

Cashcrazy 06-22-2013 09:12 PM

I was curious and checked a engine builder out of Dallas that I would use for a long block. The AMC 2.5 is $845. I bet someone in your area would be close.

Ya it is and I have an exhaust and intake manifold gasket leaks I'm leaking about a quart of oil a week and I did a pressure test and I'm ivy charging up to like 70 psi

Buy a used donoer jeep with a good motor.
Part out everything possible.
Sell the rest to the scrapyard.
If the donor is around 1200 you can easily break even, especially if the tires are any good.
