Manual or Automatic Transmission?

I had a discussion/argument with my brother the other day as to why it seems more Jeep drivers prefer manual transmission. He had his reason and I had mine (won't go into detail about the reasons) so I figured I would ask the pro's. So what's your reason for picking which ever one you did? At this point I'm just wanting to rub it in his face as to why more people choose manual. :Thanx:

There are several "inspired" threads already on the auto versus manual if you do a search.

Raiderfan001 06-22-2013 09:35 PM

Thank god another manual vs auto thread. For a second I was thinking there might not be enough of them on the forum. I see you're doing your part :thumb:

Auto. If you're not going to give your reasons, I'm not going to give mine.:wavey:

I got a manual. To me a Jeep should be driven that way. I enjoy rowing through the gears and to an extent it is a theft deterant as not all theives can drive one....

Bearpaw 06-23-2013 03:16 PM

I have a 2013 5 speed auto you can shift it like a manual. Coming down pikes peak I could down shift for the cruves worked great.

TexasJeepGirl 06-23-2013 03:25 PM

Auto. Way more convienent on the trail. Can also set a "no shift" point

Porktownff51 06-23-2013 03:26 PM

I got an auto for 2 reasons resale value and I drive a truck all day (shifting gets old especially when the one is an old 5x4 Mack quad of)

Don't be so lazy and use the SEARCH function. There are a dozen auto/manual threads on here already, princess.

Never mind, there are over 100 threads. Here, I just did the work for you: Auto Manual

I do most of my browsing via my kindle fire and the search function doesn't work for me.

RoadiJeff 06-24-2013 07:07 AM

It appears that the link I posted yesterday for all the discussions about this isn't working. I just Googled it and found over 19,000 results here on wranglerforum.com.

Auto versus Manual

insylem 06-24-2013 01:25 PM

I like manuals. ALso, the Auto is 2000 more expensive.

and this
I like the control of the manual and its a lot cheaper so its a win win for me.

Flyfisher76 06-26-2013 04:08 PM

Had a manual in my old 4 banger YJ and with that Jeep it probably came in handy being able to use a little more of the RPM range. I just picked up a 2012 JKU and test drove both the manual and the automatic. Went with the automatic....way easier to drive around town and has the manual option if you need it to slow a descent etc. That and the fiancee can't drive a stick so if something happens and she has to drive the Jeep she can with no concerns.

I also prefer the auto in 99.9% of the off road situations i have been in.

John Ellis 06-27-2013 01:02 AM

Auto is more expensive but worth it also its only 1,000 more not 2,000 but it really depends in what you do in your jeep to be honest

lindel 06-27-2013 06:53 AM

Yup, you need a manual or automatic.

Exactly!

Scott-CJ8 06-27-2013 11:15 AM

I've had both.... prefer the manual

.... unless I'm trying to drive, talk on the phone, drink a soda, eat a burger, shift, and adjust the radio all at the same time. I have gotten pretty good at driving with my knee.

Jeepin Bowhunter 06-27-2013 01:01 PM

Every Wrangler I have owned plus the JK on order were/will be manual. My Commander is an auto, but I didn't have a choice :)

Redduc99 06-27-2013 02:10 PM

25 miles to work everyday each way. Automatic!

Apparatus802 06-27-2013 02:27 PM

When I was at the dealership, the sales guy asked me if I wanted manual or auto and when I said manual, he said "Oh, you want a real jeep."

I just like manual soo much better... more control. And cause my husband can't drive stick, so it is funny to watch him stall all the time.

Thats just mean lol.

KittyPrawn 06-27-2013 04:22 PM

Between playing with the radio, eating, talking on the phone, and brushing my hair, I don't have a free hand for a stick shift or a free leg for the clutch. Left leg is for steering!

Auto.
