Connectivity package

I'm curious to get everyone's feedback about the connectivity package. Is it really worth it ?? i know for the 2014s it will have the new EVIC. which is somewhat interesting and might be worth it. Now back to the audio functions besides the handsfree bluetooth feature and a USB port. what would make this unit better then say an aftermarket solution down the line? i know my previous pioneer F series had all those functions and more. so let me hear pros and cons of this package

Once again everyone's feedback would be appreciated. :thumb:

I like it and glad I got it. I REALLY would get it in a 2014. I want the transmission temp badly...

Tweak 06-24-2013 11:34 AM

I got it, love it. I am a pandora junkie so it gets a lot of use. the occasional disconnect but that is most likely due to my phone. you can also use the buttons on the back of the steering wheel to skip songs in pandora.

chisox711 06-24-2013 11:37 AM

Get it. I have it with the 130 HU and use it all the time. If I were getting an aftermarket radio I may think twice. I love my setup though

Big Fran 06-24-2013 12:03 PM

I had it in my 2011 Patriot and never used it so I did not spend the extra on it with my 2013 JKU. I'm also swapping out the head unit for after market that comes with most of the same features. If you stick with the stock head unit you should get it.

ohioviper 06-24-2013 12:10 PM

Well worth it if you own a cell phone its a must have.

Bayouwolf 06-24-2013 12:30 PM

I love the features and love the fact that it understands what I'm saying even with the freedom panels off and the windows rolled down. My iphone 5 works like a champ in Bluetooth or hard wired to the console USB.

My last vehicle (a Ford with Sync) barely understood what I wanted it to do half the time, and if I had the window rolled down it was absolutely useless.

laollis 06-24-2013 01:52 PM

If you don't get it, you'll wish you did.

kbwwolf 06-24-2013 03:26 PM

I'm with everyone above...one of the few indispensable options, IMO.

donmeca2020 06-24-2013 03:48 PM

besides everyone liking it, what are the cons ?? i know just about all aftermarket headunits nowadays come with bluetooth, usb port, etc. you also have to get a year subscription to Siruis radio too ?

BXCc 06-24-2013 03:57 PM

Cons = $495 for Bluetooth and a USB port.

Why not just go aftermarket and get a nice 7" JVC touchscreen with GPS or something?

Rockford Fosgate 6" Punch speakers do help but the head unti itself is just so-so with sound quality.

Not a JVC fan, but my idea was to get a pioneer Nav unit with all the bells and whistles down the line.

So from what i gathered from the reponses its good and worth the money. That is if you decide you don't want to go aftermarket.

ohioviper 06-24-2013 05:28 PM

$495 if you pay sticker price much less if you ask to see the invoice.
If you haggle price you can basically get most of the interior options for free excluding leather and nav.

If you do swap the 130 out for aftermarket, are there any aftermarkets that are water resistant?

What about the freak rain storm that hits when your top is off? I don't know where you live, but where I am the weather forecast is never accurate!

You are right, well where i live from may until november rain/hurricane season is upon us here in florida. for the most part i will only be taking the freedom panels off quite frequently, which could easily be put back on. as for taking the whole top off that will only be days that I KNOW it's not going to storm on me. i want to say after may 17th, we are offically done with hurricane/rainy season. from there on out its just nice sunny skys and the temperature tends to drop abit which is ideal for topless weather :)

Have a JVC in a box from another vehicle and I loved it compared to the Jeep crap head unit. If I knew then what I know now I would have never spent the $,$$$ on the 730N.

hmm thats interesting... i also was thinking of that but after hearing your comment on it. i am now more strongly considering just going with a stock unit in my 14 model when i order and just changing the audio components out when the time comes. im thinking in the lines of a nice pioneer set up :thumb:

Blackpony04 06-24-2013 09:24 PM

When we bought our Jeep we told the dealer we wouldn't pay for the Connectivity Package as we were buying an end of year model off the lot and they knocked it off the price. Turns out it's a can't live without feature as it's the ultimate in hands free calling and I'm so glad we have it. We don't use it for bluetooth streaming at all but simply pressing a button on the steering wheel to make a call makes it worth every penny.

You're also getting the EVIC and steering wheel controls too.

Rubiwho 06-24-2013 10:38 PM

Had on my 2012, ordered it on my 2014. That was the only option that was a must have.

NYEDC108 06-25-2013 02:59 AM

How do you integrate a back up camera into system can it even do this?
Thanks ed

You can, if you get the 430 or 730, you just need the adaptor and camera, there is a thread on the forum somewhere. Nothing to do with the Connectivity group.

KC_Hawker 06-25-2013 08:42 AM

I bought mine used and it didn't have it. One of the things I really wish it did. For the hands free and the fact you can plug in an ipod to it and control it from the radio.

From what I have read the MOPAR one does not let your head unit control the ipod, so no plugging in an old ipod and leaving it sit in the glove box. :(

BXCc 06-25-2013 08:51 AM

The bluetooth controls on the steering wheel are cool, but how often would you really use them? I know most gadgets like that I normally stop using after the first month or so. If you are getting the Sahara or Rubicon package, they come with basic radio controls on the steering wheel anyway. That being said, with the Sahara or Rubi package, I would think this would be much better and $200 cheaper. This one also can play DVD's and has a SD card slot. But that is just my opinion, and my plan when the 14' Rubi gets here.

I have yet to use the steering wheel buttons on my Grand Cherokee. It has the 730N and IMO, it is a POS... I constantly bump the talk button when turning the steering wheel and have to cancel it. If I want voice recognition, I use Siri on my iPhone which handles the voice command 1000000x better than the 730N ever could.

DozerJK 06-25-2013 09:07 AM

I love it... use it every day! It is especially helpful when you have a manual trans and your phone rings... Calls are clear, and music comes through great!

WISH I HAD THE CONNECTIVITY PACKAGE
I don't have the package and wish I did, mostly for the EVIC. That gives you a better display on the instrument panel, and more settings you can set easily. Hill Start Assist would be nice to turn off when on-road. Bluetooth would also be nice for the radio. The jeep is almost always too loud for a phone call so that's about pointless. The 2014 have so much stuff you can cycle through. It would be awesome on long road trips to pass the time.

LIVING WITHOUT IT
With my rubicon, without the package, I get the following displays I can cycle though with the wheel. avg mpg (it can be reset but takes a good 10 miles to be close to accurate. It's always .5 to a mile off hand tracking), driving clock(worthless), distance until empty, Temp and direction. I also have radio controls on the back side of the wheel. On the trip display/odometer I can put it to show if I'm in Eco mode(pointless but there). Im pretty sure upgraded sports(like if they have AC) and Sahara's also get that stuff.

A fair amount of the setting can also be set with wheel dances. http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/man...le-155357.html (That link also has a way to remove the seat belt chime.) It doesn't do all of the settings. Illuminated approach, to stop flashing people late at night at campsites for example. If I get a superchip flashcal $160 I can set that. The dealer can also set that stuff that I cannot change. They didn't know what the setting (illuminated approach) was called, and were going to charge me hourly, so I told them to forget messing with it.

For $10 you can put a USB in the cigarette adapter. I have a 3.5mm plug $10 that I can put in the base radio instead of Bluetooth.
