Back Seat or No Back Seat, how do you run?

After I bought the Jeep, '05 Unlimited, the wife got in it and pulled the back seat and had me put it in the attic. We just dont run a back seat and it rarely has two of us in it, not alone the incredibly few times I would have the opportunity to run three or more.. So, just wondering, how many of you run no back seat all the time, run a back seat all the time, or kinda go back and forth.

Where is the technical point of this thread??? Should probably move this to the general discussion forum

scwalls 06-24-2013 01:32 PM

I'm also back seat-less. A little less weight, more storage room and the bonus of 'Hey, I can't drive... I can only fit 2."

I have no backseat, no seat mounts, no rear bar padding and no rear seat belts. My dog likes it better that way.

Dare 06-24-2013 01:44 PM

I run no backseat in our LJ , seat is stored in the basement and a 2inch thick insulation board fitted for the dogs to ride on.

Sccafire 06-24-2013 07:07 PM

I do not run a back seat. I bought the Jeep new in 05. First week I had it I removed the back seat, all brackets, and rear seatbelts. I couldn't tell you where they are at this point. As stated before I don't use the back seat so I can have more room for storage and only room for 2 people (wife and I).

The backseat has been used once in 4 years, so out it came and put in a Highrock storage rack.
The storage rack is easily removed, so left the seatbelts and brackets in the tub in case I need to use the seat.

I hardly ever have my back seat in. I like it best without it. But, I keep it ready in the garage for the rare occasions I may need it. Last time I used it was September 2012.

JeepnJim 06-25-2013 12:16 AM

More out than in.

BWolfE84 06-25-2013 12:29 AM

out for sure. I need it out to do what I want to do to my jeep.

RevCo666 06-25-2013 12:48 AM

Being hearing impaired, I have a hard time hearing someone speak to me from behind... So no back seat for me :) Besides my cat enjoys the open space more hehehe Yep, she's a jeeper lol

What did you get for it?

Owen_TJ 06-25-2013 01:14 AM

I think i sold it for like 150 or 200 bucks...had it on for maybe a day on craigslist and had a bunch of interest in it.

TheDesertOutlaw 06-25-2013 01:36 AM

Back seat is stored in the rafters of the garage. I bought the Jeep new in 2003 - in 2004, I bought this trick All J Products interior rack. Look at all of the stuff that fits in my Jeep!

It was in Big Bear, CA yesterday. The Jeep is pictured loaded down with gear, hence, the sagging over the rear axle. Not running a rear seat allows me to pack for long weekend trips without running out of interior space.

back seat is in!

My Jeep is used as a DD, grocery getter, child carrier and off road fun. Back seat is in and will stay in. If I need more room I have to drive our truck. Haven't had to since I bought the tj over a month ago. I've even taken the kids to costco and Sam's club...the kids have to eat... :)

BigDeaner 06-25-2013 07:43 AM

I took my backseat out and will never look back. I'm holding onto in case I need it for something, but chances are low. There isn't a whole lot of room back there for someone over 5 feet tall and storage space is at a premium for me because I have two 12" subs and a box that takes up the whole trunk. I'm thinking about relocating my amp to the box itself to free up more floor space...Was thinking about putting it on top, but that leaves it pretty exposed. I think it'll end up getting mounted to where the back of the back seat would be. We shall see.

lynn 06-25-2013 07:44 AM

'05 LJ, back seat always on the shelf except when grandkids visit. :)

GrayKat97 06-25-2013 08:06 AM

I have kiddos so the back seat is in and in use nearly every day. My Jeep isn't the most practical of vehicles in the world for my family, but I wouldn't trade her for the world! (and so far we've found a way to make it work)

X2! Love my Jeep! Traded from a Volvo XC90...beautiful car, large and practical...but looking in the rear view mirror at my kiddos while driving the TJ-PRICELESS! Learning how to stash groceries into every nook and cranny, theres lots of room when you get creative! :D

adkjoe 06-25-2013 11:03 AM

Seat has been out of the jeep since I bought it....been sitting in my closet for 4 years. No need for it.

you should sell it like i did! Easy 150-200 bucks :)

adkjoe 06-25-2013 12:47 PM

^I've tried, no one seems interested. It's brand new and in mint condition. Where did you sell it craigslist?

Yeah...i just put it on craigslist and had someone pick it up the next day.

I sold the seatbelts and everything with it as well since the seatbelts would just flap in the wind anyway.

i think i put it on there for like 175 or somethign and ultimately got 150 for it

dklassen 06-25-2013 01:04 PM

I plan on taking mine out but the cables are broken on the latch (06) so it doesn't seem to want to come out.
