July 5th run

I thought there was a thread for a run(s) for the weekend of July 4th but perhaps I am mistaken. Anyone have and runs happening? I am thinking of doing one but not sure exactly where just yet. Maybe gold butte?

I would be up for the 6th. Unfortunately I can't claim Friday as a holiday. Never been to Gold Butte. Would that be an overnighter or is it close enough to be a day trip if you leave early enough in the AM?

Xodius 06-24-2013 04:51 PM

It is easily doable in a day depending on what you do there. There is the triple c dam there and a few other old civil engineering items there that I wouldn't mind to look at. Otherwise there is always the option to snag a couple buckets of dirt for later panning.

RepairMan 06-24-2013 08:18 PM

I'm off the 4th thru the 7th and good to go. Gold Butte is a cool area, another run that was suggested was up Carpenter Canyon.

And I made a post on the chit chat thread suggesting a run or two over the weekend.

Xodius 06-24-2013 08:57 PM

I knew I saw something somewhere. Carpenter would be cool. I am curious if it is still blocked off up near the cabins.

RepairMan 06-24-2013 09:16 PM

Looking at maps, there's a huge mostly unpaved area with a lot of dirt roads between Mesquite (South), Caliente(North) and Alamo(West), St. George(East). Anything cool there in the middle besides the Delamar ghost town?

I hunt near there but not that exact area. Might be a good option.

Xodius 06-25-2013 10:36 PM

Carpenter canyon might be the best option as it is a lot closer.

raythom3 06-26-2013 08:38 AM

Are you guys set on the 5th, or can we make it the 6th?

Xodius 06-26-2013 11:32 AM

I have a couple guys that can only go on the 5th. I am half tempted to do one each day. Lol. *wiggles fingers* you want to take off the 5th :D

Well I might have to find a way to skip work that day.

RepairMan 06-26-2013 10:27 PM

Ok, I'm good for that

raythom3 06-27-2013 10:57 AM

Looks like I'm in on the 5th. Just received an email corporate wide stating the Friday is a forced Vacation Day. I will have my 40 hours in by end of day next Wednesday and I will still be forced to take a vacation day. Nice corporate policies for the salaried staff.

jokerchief462 06-27-2013 02:29 PM

I may be in. Found this on the DW page from April

Carpenter Canyon, a beauhttp://photos3.meetupstatic.com/phot...219864302.jpegtiful area on the back side of Mt. Charleston off state Route 160, as you journey into Pahrump, NV. After traveling through a large Joshua Forest, we will climb to an elevation of over 4,000 above sea level, crossing running streams and a beautiful pine forest with wonderful views. There are trout in the streams, so if you have your fishing license and a fishing pole you just might get a chance at catching a few. This will not be an all day journey, but make sure you bring plenty of water and your lunch. Be prepared for any type of weather as I'm not sure what to exspect. Also bring your camera's as it's spring, and the wild flowers should be in full bloom. Remember, this a family friendly club, so bring the kids and animals along for the ride. For those of you that like to camp and hike, this is a great opportunity to get a feel of the area for future return trips after this trip is over.

Read some stuff on line seems like a good trip 5 Jul high is 103 on the 10 day forecast.

Let me know when and where.

jokerchief462 06-27-2013 02:39 PM

We can do Wheeler Pass Backwards at the end of doing Carpenter Canyon or something.

CFR Marine 06-27-2013 09:07 PM

I'm in on the 5 th for sure

Xodius 06-28-2013 08:24 AM

Sounds good.

Are all of us up in the NW part of the valley? If so we can meet at the Albertsons/McD's off Durango and Farm. Meet at 9am, figure just over an hour to terribles in Pahrump. Too off and head up Carpenters and on way back we can hit wheelers. Or do you think we should meet earlier?

raythom3 06-28-2013 12:18 PM

Backing out Peeps, free room and board in San Diego over the holiday weekend is kind of hard to pass up.

jokerchief462 06-28-2013 01:15 PM

Take me with you

Are u thinking of taking the Northern route to Pahrump?

Xodius 06-28-2013 11:56 PM

Yes that is what I was thinking. The distance is about the same and with most of us up in NW.

What are your thoughts?

RepairMan 06-29-2013 09:15 PM

As long as we all agree, sure. But I think that CFR Marine is from the South East. And I think 830 for a target would be better, leave at 9.

l2abbit 06-30-2013 03:30 AM

I'm interested ? But what run are we doing again? Lol

CFR Marine 06-30-2013 10:38 AM

If we are meeting that early I'm not sure ill male it will be too hung over from bday on the 3rd and the 4th lol but ill try

What time would be good for you?

Run is carpenter canyon and wheelers on the way back.

Just got a news alert that there is a 100-acre fire burning in Carpenter Canyon.

Bummer, may go into Potatoe ridge and check out a front locker with a friend early and come back out the same way. Going to be hot day so out early and in early.

LAS VEGAS -- Firefighters with the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forestry Service are working to put out a growing fire burning in the Carpenter Canyon area of Mt. Charleston, which is on the Pahrump side of the mountain.
According to the BLM, the fire started Monday, when lightning hit a tree. The fire has now spread to between 800 and 1,000 acres. It is being fueled by pinyon juniper trees.
Four engines, a single-engine air tanker dropping fire retardant and a helicopter dropping water is being used to fight the fire. The Forest Service's most advanced ground crew is fighting the fire. More resources are expected Wednesday.
BLM spokeswoman Hilarie Patton said Trout Canyon Road is expected to close. The town of Trout Canyon is about two miles away from the fire, she said. No structures are threatened at this time.
The fire is not contained at all, she said.

RepairMan 07-02-2013 09:54 PM

Crap...Well I hope the firefighters stay safe and they can save the town that they mention.
