Exhaust Mean Sounding!!!

What are good sounding exhausts that are not to hard to put on? I have a inline 6 so i know i will sound deep!!!

ExDementia 01-14-2009 06:26 PM

I like the sound of mine, Flowmaster 40 w/ 2.5 inch pipe. Ive had people ask me if I have a V8:p

BLACKTOOTHGRIN 01-14-2009 06:46 PM

x2 with FlowMaster!

infamousbliss 01-14-2009 06:53 PM

flowmaster 40 seriers with a random tech high flow cat. i've had people ask if i had a 350 as well.

speepdaedeesi 01-14-2009 07:08 PM

i have a 4cyl so im screwed lol.

but on my wifes car she has a 3.2 v6, with flowmaster 40 series. sounds low, and not too loud like a fart can civic or something. i really like it. it sounds like a stock v8.

jgano23 01-14-2009 07:10 PM

i've got a banks monster and i love it. it's deep but not too loud.

Saint101 01-14-2009 07:27 PM

Go with the banks. You will like it.

chesterspl 01-14-2009 07:35 PM

Don't mean to :hijacked: but I would like to put something on my 2.5. Nothing for sounds just air flow. I don't want to sound like a ricer just for performance issues.
No and changing the engine is not a opnion

:9lame: I know I know

Saint101 01-14-2009 07:38 PM

I have seen 2.5 down south with banks too. Not bad at all

chesterspl 01-14-2009 08:01 PM

Thanks for not flaming me, appreciate the advice

charliefoxtrot 01-14-2009 08:30 PM

Do you have the link on youtube?

ExDementia 01-14-2009 09:21 PM

I had banks exhaust on my 2.5, it sounded a bit ricey, not too bad. I'm going to ask my buddy what he has on his YJ, 2.5. That thing sounds like a beast.

One more thing about the flowmaster 40 is that it is pretty quite, loud enough, but nothing too obscene. Makes revving in a parking garage alot of fun.:firedevil:

triplett104 01-14-2009 10:10 PM

With the flowmaster 40 is that just a muffler or a whole exhaust system

ExDementia 01-14-2009 10:43 PM

It comes with all the pipe you need, but I also have a high flow cat and headers that aren't flowmaster.

The guy he bought it from just bought a no-name muffler and one of those exhaust kits and welded it up himself.

Jma20a 01-15-2009 12:44 PM

i got the banks on my '99 4 cylinder and i have no complaints.

Jeepmanj20 01-15-2009 01:58 PM

I got a 12" long cherrybomb glasspack on mine. 2.5" pipe, sound great but is REALLY loud. I had a 26" one on there with 2.25" pipe and it was alot quiter. I wouldnt go with flowmaster. I personally dont think they sound good on anything, and I have heard there more for noise than flow. On the flowmaster site it say for vehicles with dual exaust, and people i know say it didnt help them out any. My cherrybomb gave me noticably more power and i got moe than 3 more MPG's. Just thought id give my 2 cents.:wavey:

3 mpg from a muffler? did that thing have an exhaust the size of a straw?

skippy 01-18-2009 04:34 PM

i went with a $25 cherry bomb glass pack from ebay and the rusty exhaust to match. It cost total about $160 after having it welded on. I love the sound over time. At first it sort of sounded like a supra from fast and the furious but now it has a great "rumble" to it. There is a vid somewhere on youtube with a jeep that has the glass packs. That is why i bought mine.

snwchris 01-20-2009 08:11 PM

Check out youtube, I was just going thru this the other day looking at exhausts.

Search for Jeep Wrangler exhausts or individual names if you know. One bad thing about the vids on youtube, is that it's somewhat bias, because most of the time the mic is right by the exhaust. I only found a couple vids that it was placed a little bit away or even better a couple that people recorded while driving.

I'm considering either the Banks Monster or JBA since both are same price.

Go with the complete Banks system. I put it on my 6cyl. Banks intake, Header pipe, Monster exhaust. A few weeks ago a cab driver asked me if I had a "race car motor in that shit" The whole system is expensive, but when all said and done it sounds nice and deep, and has given me adequate power to push the 35's for quick acceleration and on the highway at speed.

I have dual glasspack cherrybomb's on my 84 Dodge ram 150 and they are louder than hell. I always thought glasspacks sound better on v8's than on a v6 or I6

Jeepzcb09 02-13-2010 10:14 PM

im trying to decide what i want, I have came down to 3

1.Dynomax-cat back system
2.Cherrybomb Glasspack'
3.Flowmaster 40

I want it to be loud and mean, i dont give a F**k about noise lol

s3nt3nc3d 02-13-2010 10:27 PM

I ran both a Dynomax super turbo and a Flowmaster 40 series on my old Dakota with the 3.9L V6...

Flowmaster could set off car alarms and had an amazing rumble at idle...but once you hit the upper RPMs, it got ricey.

The Dynomax had a nice rumble at idle and was still throaty in the upper RPMs but it was pretty quiet compared to the Flowmaster.

My friend also had a YJ with the 4.0L and a Flowmaster 40...it was a lot louder than stock, but it really didn't sound all that impressive. Reminded me of my truck, but had a more ricey tone when he got on it.

I'd recommend the Banks Monster Exhaust from what I've heard on youtube...

Flowmaster 40 series....

Stainless Steel Cat-Backā„¢ System | 140103 | Jeep Wrangler 4.0L 6cyl - BORLA® - The World's Most Winning Exhaust

That's what I have, the Borla cat-back system. It's pricey, but it's got a real deep rumble and a throatier high-end. I'd say it sounds closer to a v8 would. My ONLY complaint is the tailpipe is UGLY as sin and on mine will be changed once the weather gets hot out. But other then that two :flipoff: (thumbs) up to Borla!

The glasspacks reviews are pretty bad. I mean, for me, I feel Cherry Bombs are generally slightly ricey. The Flowmaster 40s are real deep and throaty at the low end, but rev 'em up and to me they get to be fart cans.

Eh, mufflers are overrated, take 'em off and run a straight pipe :punk:

doclouie 02-14-2010 12:26 AM

I had it all

I had a set of Borla stainless steel headers going into a high flow Cat and then a 40 series Flowmaster. It sounded great and only wore out the cat a muffler once in 15 years.

gabeinaz 02-14-2010 02:12 AM

For the 4 cyl guys who were asking, I'm using a Magnaflow muffler/ cat with my 2.5, stock diameter tubing and it doesn't sound ricey, as verified by "V8 only" friends of mine. And thats a tough audience...
Its a little brassy at first but mellows into a nice sound
