Discrete amp location/speaker location?

I am looking to install a better sound system, but I am worried about theft. There isn't really too many choices, but wheres the best place?

I was thinking under the passenger seat, but i'm unsure if an amp will even fit. Beneath the back seat also seems adequate, but I don't know how I should go about mounting it, or of heat will be a problem on the carpet. I see a lot of people place them in the tailgate, but I have a soft top and that just an invite for someone to get a new stereo setup.

Another less-important idea is sub location. I do have the hole in the console for a sub, but just in case I might place it otherwise. I really doubt a sub in a speaker box will fit under anything, so i might just place it in the cargo space.

If you have a setup feel free to share what worked for you.

There was a thread that someone put an amp behind the cover below the steering wheel area. He gave the brand and part number of the amp so it would fit nicely. I will try to find the thread when I get a chance.

EDIT- I don't think this was the original one I was looking at but here is a good write up. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f20/i...-pics-1285867/

You can also install a sub in the seat portion of the rear seat. Personally, I would just like to figure out a good spot to mount some 6x9s.

I have one in the center console where the factory sub used to go.

For a hidden setup, I'd go with the alpine HU, their mini amp (and mount behind dash) for the speakers then an amp in the center console going to a sub under the back seat.

X2 I used this same thread. With the amp under the steering wheel you hide all the wires and gives you less chance of having everything stolen.
I used the following:

1.) Amp: same from thread. Xplod

2.) Sub: Rockford Fosgate Punch P1S2-8 Punch P1 8" 2-ohm subwoofer at Crutchfield.com. (little modifications to center counsel, write-up video on YouTube)

3.) Head Unit: Kenwood KDC-255U CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

4.) Sound Bar: Polk Audio DXi650 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers — also fit 6-3/4" openings at Crutchfield Outlet and I modified my sound bar to fit these also, Polk Audio DXi350 3-1/2" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com

5.) Front Dash: Polk Audio db521 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com I used this theard for the brackets: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/4x6-...ers-94024.html

I am very pleased with how everything turned out, it all looks stock and couldn't be happier with the sound quality! I'll try to upload some photos.

Hope this helps.

My amp is under my back seat. The only reason i dont pull my back seat out more is I don't want the amp visible. If you use a quality amp, heat will not be an issue.

I have the Sony 4 channel amp under the steering column, been there the last couple years and has been a great little amp.

I used to buy whatever was cheapest and they all went pop, haven't had any problems with Alpine. I get the cheapest unit with f/r and sub pre-outs, but you can go cheaper since you'd be using the little block that plugs right into the HU.

I installed my 5 channel amp under the back seat on the carpet a month ago, i welded a rack for it today with some steel from lowes, this way it's raised off the floor 3" in case the carpet get's wet. Also now the bottom fan won't be blocked.

I have a JL Audio XD 500 amp mounted up above the gas pedal on the right hand side, it is very difficult to see even when you stick your head up by the pedals. As for a subwoofer, I had a custom box made so that I can keep it behind the rear seat when I have my soft top on. In the winter with the hard top I just take the rear seats out and put the sub directly behind the center console. Hope it helps! :thumb:
