I am a newbie in the Jeep world and just bought my 1st one...2013 Wrangler Sport 4 door....already looking at upgrades... can anybody recommend any good cheap upgrades for appearance on the outside? thx!!!

Welcome! get some Sport S or Rubicon wheels/tires off of craigslist. that will improve the stance and appearance without breaking the bank, since most people look to get rid of them cheap.

Actually going to pickup a set this afternoon... Rubicon takeoffs....!!!

A good cheap upgrade is a gas cover. They come in various colors, styles, and locking or non-locking.

I'd also pop into the JK pictures threads check out other peoples rig's and see what exterior features catch your eye!

Flipped your mirror yet?

Shorty antenna (as long as you don't mind a downgrade in reception), take-off Sahara steps.

I ran a flipped mirror for like 3-4 weeks after reading it from here. It took me that long to realize that all it did was block the pretty Jeep grill sticker ;)

Plus, the '13 mirror has a power cord and map lights.

I agree, take off those Sahara steps and put on some Rock Rails.

Rubi take offs are great upgrades...but you'll be wanting more afterwards....rubicon take offs were my initial one and done plan. <- which were shot to hell.

Mine looks great, it was cheap, and I don't notice a difference in reception.

Am I the only one that doesn't see Sahara steps?

StarBrite 06-29-2013 11:06 PM

I think maybe he meant add some take-off Sahara steps...

Correct.

And Antenna X, I live downtown in a major North American city. I get perfect reception in my other vehicles, and I did with my stock aerial. Sorry, but while your 13" aerial looks good it does impact reception.

Take-off Rubi "rock rails" could be had for cheap too, but they don't offer the "step" like a take-off Sahara part would. So it depends on protection or step. Both dress up the look.

There's a whole thread on plasti-dipping parts or interior bits, that can look cool.

If you're going to run topless often, you can pick up a cheap Smittybuilt soft top storage boot for like 50USD. It really dresses up the top when folded down, makes it look clean, in my opinion.

Another cheap thing to have around if pulling the doors off and putting them back on is a roll of painter's tape. This way, when you put the doors back on, you can cover the area around the hing with painters tape so that as you're guiding the doors back in, you don't bugger up the hinge.

I'd get some mud on it though. It's free, except for the gas you burn, and it is a great accessory. :thumb::thumb::thumb:
