So I have a 92 YJ. It has a hard top with full doors, rhino lining inside and out, and custom fabricated bumpers and rocker guards. It has a 2.5L motor in it, with about 185k on it. I have owned this jeep for about 7 years now and I'm tired of the total lack of any kind of power...it does good to do the speed limit on the interstate. Anyways, I've decided I want to swap the motor, but havent come to a decision as to what motor. I've been told that a Dodge 318 or 360 out of a 90's model dodge truck works well, I've also been told a 351W is an easy swap. I guess my question is for anyone that has done it, what's better? Fuel injected or carbureted? I am on somewhat of a tight budget so I need a happy medium of power, fuel mileage, and ease of installation. Also, with a small block V8 how much would I have to beef up the drivetrain if any?? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :D

It is hard to any conversion on a tight budget. The list of parts to change gets kind of long. Best bet is to find a donor vehicle that has the engine and all the related parts so that you are only dealing with the interface parts.
I am doing a SBC into a 92 that was a 4 cylinder but between the engine, transmission, etc. etc. it is not a low budget swap.

I agree. I'm in the middle of my sbc swap right now. All in all if you do your homework an hunt down parts that will work an get a deal on a donor motor/vehicle, you could possibly do it for less. But, by less I mean less than $5,000. I was able to get away so far with about $2,500-2700 but it's not in the jeep yet. I've got everything I need to install, but there r always surprises. Which I'm sure ill run into some in the morning when I start wkn on it again. An the price above is me doing all the work myself. Doing all motor, fab, painting, an elect. work. Be prepared to spend more if you have someone do it for you.
