Steering dead spot. Help?
I have a fairly large dead spot in my steering. Maybe quarter of a turn of play when wiggling the steering wheel with the Jeep off and the wheels on the ground. The only place I could see play is where the lower steering shaft couples to the steering box. I can't feel any play in the steering box when the steering shaft is disconnected.
Also, my steering box is a reman. durango box that I installed a couple months ago. I can't feel any play in the steering shaft either, so it is almost like the play is in the splines in the connection between the two? All of the play is happening before the pitman arm.
I can grab on to the coupler and move it up and down and back and forth on the steering box input shaft. Are the splines on the lower steering shaft worn out? Or should I go use the warranty and get a new power steering box, though it has no obvious play? I appreciate any help!
