95 YJ 4.0L Overheats at idle, even at high speed

My Jeep just started overheating tonight. The odd thing (to me at least) is that if I keep the RPMs high the engine stays cool. So if I'm going down hill at 70MPH in neutral (idling) I can watch the temp gauge go up. As soon as I put it in gear and give it gas it cools back down. When traveling at slower speeds I have to keep it a gear or two lower to keep the RPMs up and it will also stay cool.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like your fan isn't working properly or is missing a fin. Also check to make sure your radiator isn't clogged with debris. Are you runnin a winch? Or big front lights?

Your clutch fan might not be working right. They sell replacements but a lot of guys take them off and put on electric fans out of cars and put them in your jeep. I guess getting rid of the clutch fan increases HP to. Less resistance on the motor. Id flush the old coolent out and flush the radiator out with water and put in new coolant. Just make sure its cooled off before you do it. Putting cold water or coolant in a hot radiator can and will crack it.
