happy with soft top?

Hey guys I was wondering if you guys are happy running the soft top. I have my hard top on a jku and have the dual top group and have the itch to swap them out. Just looking for you opinion.

XtreemLee 06-29-2013 12:36 AM

I dislike my soft top, its missing parts and flaps in the wind. I never take it down and am buying a hardtop.

jcj2121 06-29-2013 12:41 AM

I love mine... 2 min up, 2 min down. If the weather looks ominous, I just fold the sunrider part back. Personally, I couldn't be happier... it's why I bought the Jeep!

The only con is the limited access when u stock up for groceries. Taking out the window for more room is not convenient.

coelement777 06-29-2013 01:06 AM

I love my soft top.Taking it up and down is a 2 person task so if i just want air i take all the windows off, it takes about 2 minutes. It is a little loud on the highway but im always blasting music so thats not a issue for me. I had a hell of a time finding a new one with a soft top in my area but it was worth the search as i have no where to store a hardtop if i wanted to take it off. Unless you are feeding a ton of people you should have plenty of room for groceries with the back seat folded down.

I just got an OEM '12 soft top less than a month ago. I love it because I can decide to take it off at any time.

The main thing I didn't like about the hard top is that you have to be home to take it off. Then once it's off, you can't put it on again until your back home.

I wanted the soft top so I can keep it up on the way to the trail, put it down once I get to the trail, then back up when done, cold, hot, dusty, etc.

I honestly don't know if I'll ever put the hard top back on.

I felt the same. We don't get much snow here so I wasn't to worried about getting a hard top. Didn't wanna hassle with takin it off an putting it on. The soft top is easy up easy down an able to go on an off whenever an gives more freedom in my opinion. I will always own a jeep with a soft top

I was lucky enough to get a hold of a Premium soft top for my JKU. I took my hard top off and have been loving the soft top. I did not think it was much louder then my hard top. With the spring assist the new tops are easy for one person to put down and up. The only bad part is the rear window when loading stuff. It is a pain to reach under or unzip and flip up the window but for the summer I'm loving my soft top. :)

Thanks thats all I needed . Putting the soft top on!

Do it! Do it!! :D

Braveheart12JK 06-29-2013 02:18 AM

Do it! I bought a dual top '12 JK and once I switched to the soft top, I never switched back!...and I live in New England. It's still fine. The new soft tops are awesome!

pepatrick 06-29-2013 02:36 AM

I have a 2013 JKU with the Premium top. It is easy to put it up and down with one person. Weekends it comes off and usually so do the doors. I purposely bought the soft top. I thought at one time I wanted the hard top too, but now that I have owned the Jeep for 6 months, I am very happy with the soft top.

jwilson2598 06-29-2013 07:17 AM

Yep, I love the soft top. My last 3 Wranglers have been dual top Jeeps, because I like each top for its appropriate season. Plus they're different enough that it's like having a different Jeep every few months when you swap them.

getahemi 06-29-2013 07:40 AM

I bought my 13 JK without a hard top since I have nowhere to store it. I ran my 03 tj with a soft top also and I have to say the newest soft top design is a big improvement over that. I'm glad I didn't pay for a hard top that I would never use. Btw I got the upgraded premium sunrider.

I can't stand mine. The thought of the sun shining on me and the wind blowing in my face is a real turn off. Heck, even when I have the hard top on, I never remove the freedom panels.

steve2010 06-29-2013 08:12 AM

What's a hard top? I also keep a small ratchet with a T50 and a 14mm socket in my under-seat security drawer and can have the roof and doors off, mirrors replaced in less than 10 minutes. Leave the windows at home, and there is storage galore. Warranty is over soon, and it's almost MOD time, but the roof issue was settled at the dealership.

eightshb 06-29-2013 08:12 AM

I have never had a hard top so I don't know anything else but that's why I bought a jeep that's what it is all about. I love the soft top even in the winter as the heater is a furnace and heated seats keep the backside warm. This is my camaro convertible with 4 wheel drive

That's funny. I was about ready to pull the trigger on a Camaro 2SS convertible. Test drove the jeep on a whim...and the rest is history.

wassup8687 06-29-2013 09:29 AM

I bought my Jeep with a Soft Top and bought a Hard Top a couple months later. I ran the hard top last summer taking the freedom panes out often. I put the soft top on about a month ago and have been folding it down when nice. The soft top is so much nicer in the summer. I'll put the hard top back on for the winter though.

big_slacker 06-29-2013 10:01 AM

I love the soft top, had one on my TJ and now on the '13. I don't get that it's a 2 person job? I took mine down by myself for the first time yesterday in 5 minutes. I thought about the hard top but realized I live in Seattle and the last thing I need is a ridiculous summer rainstorm with my top back home in the garage.

JKPaul 06-29-2013 10:17 AM

My hard top is off, soft top is on and will stay on. I run the soft top year round, no problem, love it. Up and down is only a 1 person job 5 - 10 mins tops.
If the wind in your face or sun on your head bothers you you are wasting most of the joy of having a Jeep! You may want to consider other options. IMHO.

Ponderosa 06-29-2013 11:03 AM

I was going to put my hard top back on for summer but never got around to it. I was out yesterday and the Jeep was reading 119. The AC was doing the job, though. I won't be dropping the soft top till October. It is just too hot for that. For the rest of the year, the spiderwebshade makes the soft top much more bearable where I live. The sun is intense here and uncomfortable, even in winter.

andymac40330 06-29-2013 11:20 AM

I love having the soft top so far. Its nice to be able to go topless anywhere you want and have the relief that if weather gets bad you can throw it back up in 5 minutes.

RKracing 06-29-2013 11:35 AM

Am I happy with a soft top........
Do I like sex.......
Does a bear chit in the woods.......
Does the water ripple when a duck farts.........
Are you kidding me?

damndirtydog 06-29-2013 11:50 AM

Love the soft top, hate the windows. They get scratched just looking at them.
Gotta be a better material out there for windows.

I'm in CA and it's NOWHERE as hot as in Arizona. However, I would still never do the soft top without the spiderwebshade. I had enough sun exposure going to the beach in my teens. Plus skin cancer runs in my family.

lolpetewtf 06-29-2013 12:11 PM

If I could go back I would not have gotten the hard top

traitor08 06-29-2013 01:08 PM

I cN take the top down and doors off in about 5 minutes.

LoveJiuJitsu 06-29-2013 08:33 PM

My wife's has a hard top. Mine is a soft top. I prefer mine 100000000x over hers.

Welding Rod 06-30-2013 12:28 AM

I have owned 2 soft tops and now have my first hard top on my new JKU.

I would prefer a soft top if I were living in the southwest again, where there is little mud and almost no trees. I like to go topless when I can.

But Up here in the Coastal PacNW just about every 2 track will have tree branches and sapplings dragging across the windows continually. This is particularly bad if there is already mud on the window. The plastic windows get ruined very fast.

Up here I have found the hard top is growing on me quickly.
