Interstate Speeds

Another member brought this up so I was curious.while driving on the interstate what is your average speed in your Jeep. Most of all at what speed to you feel safe driving at? And is it lifted?

Tyr4nt 06-29-2013 02:14 PM

Stock suspension - 4.0 liter - Sahara - 31s - wobble at 55, clears up at 60, but I don't like driving above 65.... set cruise, enjoy staring at truck doors...

Cockney 06-29-2013 02:26 PM

2.5" OME - 4.0 liter - Sport- 31s, will cruise all day at 70 or until it runs out of gas!

Duke-TJ 06-29-2013 02:26 PM

70-75mph comfortably. 2" OME boost. 32" BFG AT. Too squirrely at 80+

Sahara, 4.0 1998

PStov98TJ 06-29-2013 02:28 PM

2.5L, manual trans, 33x12.5 mtr's, 3 inches of lift, 4.10 gears. I cruise at 60-65. 70+ gets a little squirrelly with winds so I just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Verf 06-29-2013 02:43 PM

Stock Rubi Unlimited. 31's. Cruise control at 65 (in a 55) and 75 (in a 65). Have pushed it up to cruise at 85 to keep up with NJ traffic on a trip and she handled fine at all speeds.

Steeljag 06-29-2013 02:50 PM

Lol...I don't think mine has ever seen an interstate. State and county roads.......cruising at 60 or 65 mph is good.

scot68 06-29-2013 03:42 PM

4.0L 5 speed, 4.56 gears, 4" lift on 33's, I usually cruise at about 70-74, it's very stable. No reason to go any faster.. :)

Jimmuise 06-29-2013 03:46 PM

3 inch lift on 33s I like to stay around 65-70. no need for speeding tickets!

Holton345 06-29-2013 03:47 PM

2003 Sport 4.0L 5 speed
2.5" lift (came that way, so I do not really know yet)
33x12.5x15 BFG All-Terrain TA/KO

I drive at 5 over whatever is posted unless it is a speed zone blowing through a small town, in which case I go the speed limit on the dot to avoid Officer Friendly. If there is a strong cross wind I might go slower. If there is a headwind I lose power as I only have stock 3.73 gearing. The steering gets squirrelly above 80 so I do not go there any longer...

Neil F. 06-29-2013 03:55 PM

Daily commuter and long roadtrips. 33x12.5 4" lift. 70-75 every day. Rock solid 80-90.

Big Cole 06-29-2013 04:43 PM

65 max. My rig is old and well used thus I have no desire to push it. My chevelle is built for speed, this rig is built for punishment.

Brankz 06-29-2013 04:46 PM

85 on my JK.... Never feel so safe lol, to much gas but is all good.

Tjdude08 06-29-2013 04:54 PM

2" bb and 33 12.50. 60mph normal driving but she will do 70-80 easily. When I went to Florida from va I had 31s and did almost 80 the whole way.

n00g7 06-29-2013 06:38 PM

60-90 depending on how fast I want to get there and how much $$$ I want to spend on gas.

TheDesertOutlaw 06-29-2013 06:55 PM

4.10 gears, 5" combined susp., 1" BL, 35" BFG AT/KOs - 65 - 70 mph feels about right. Above 70, and it feels squirrely.

Kilroy 06-29-2013 06:56 PM

No lift, aftermarket shocks, aftermarket front suspension joints. Good multi purpose tires. Very comfortable at 75. I have driven 80 for 3 hours straight with no problems except increased fuel consumption.

Katamarino 06-29-2013 07:40 PM

4" lift, 4.0 engine, 4.88 gears, and 33s. I cruise at about 63.

racefan88 06-29-2013 09:48 PM

4" lift 33's 4.10 gears cruises easy 65-70 very stable just watch out for cross winds

lindel 06-29-2013 09:53 PM

5" total lift, 33's with 4.10 gears. Generally in the mid 60's, any faster and it starts getting expensive to feed.

Lmao!!!! Just like me bro.. When I do a full tank I'm like, ok I will save gas and go slow but when I get in the freeway I just want to go FAST. Lol.... Sorry for my broken English

commodore_dude 06-30-2013 05:31 PM

I've found mpg drops off dramatically over 70, so typically that's my limit unless the speed limit is higher, in which case I'll go just as high as the speed limit to avoid being a roadblock. Stock Rubi LJ, so 4.10s and 31s. It took some time to figure this out coming from an XJ, when I was used to being able to go quite a bit faster without sacrificing mileage or feeling like I was about to die :)

HillbillyJeeper 06-30-2013 05:35 PM

4" lift, 35" bfg muds, AEV package '12 Rubicon unlimited. 5 over posted everywhere I go. Had her at 90 andits very stable but MPG is abour 9.

Los57 06-30-2013 06:06 PM

3" lift, 33x10.5x15 BFG A/T KO's, 65-75 is comfortable and stable. Haven't gone over that.

SurfKaster 06-30-2013 06:16 PM

Stock with 31s. I generally commute at 65 which seems slightly easier on gas. I do 70ish+ occasionally, but it doesn't shave that much time off the clock.

TJmama 06-30-2013 06:21 PM

Stock height running 30s , I run 70-80 on the daily drive. Easily. Sometimes I look down and am surprised at how fast I am going and have to slow down...often find myself at 90. No cruise, need cruise....:whistling:

JGreen06TJ 06-30-2013 07:33 PM

4" lift 33" mud tires Runs 65-70 on freeway with no problems. I've had it a little higher but then thought I could see the fuel gauge going down so I slowed down.

Beachcomber 06-30-2013 07:39 PM

4L 5speed I have had it at 75 and it was very stable but the noise is unbearable so I keep it at 65 max with the top on and whatever in the summer when going topless because the noise is less than with the top on.

Yes. I feel unsafe when driving on the interstate at a slower speed. I've bumped it off the hard limiter and it was stable the whole time.

No. My Toyota p/u was 4" lift/33" tires and I drove the same speeds. It was nearly the same wheelbase as my LJ.

bmlbrewer 06-30-2013 09:19 PM

Mines my DD and I've gotten it to max out on the speedo. However it was scary. I normally drive 70 ish on the freeway with no issues. 80-90 if I really need to get somewhere in a hurry, however the gas is what sucks.

4" lift, 33" tires 4.88 gears, '97 TH Sport 5 spd manual.
