I've had my JK for 2 weeks now. Not tonmention I LOVE the thing!! Today was the first time I took it to the lake. I packed with me 1 large cooler, 1 smaller cooler, 2 folding chairs that go in the bags, 3 fishing poles, charcoal, and some other miscellaneous items. Not to mention 3 people. Then we drove an hour to pick up the small boat and another hour to the lake. Granted its just my wife and I 80% of the time and we would have had enough room for everything without the 3rd person.

I felt like such an ass not having enough room or everything and everybody.

When I first started looking at the wranglers I wanted nothing but a 4-door mostly for the extra room and partially for the towing. After driving an 2009 and then driving my 2012 I decided I could get along with a 2 door.

Part of me is starting to regret my decision.

Someone pleas talk me into loving my 2 door again!!??!

Barmanvarn 06-30-2013 10:37 PM

Remove rear seat. Tell people you sold it. No more need to worry about carrying extra people.

bkmclau 06-30-2013 11:22 PM

No regrets

I got my 2DR about a month and a half ago. Don`t regret not getting the 4DR at all. Bought a little utility trailer for extra crap and took out the backseat for the dogs. I would have been happy with 4 doors. But this drives like my old 83 CJ. There was something that drew you to the 2DR, just remember that.

coelement777 06-30-2013 11:23 PM

if you only need extra room every once in a while, buy a small utility trailer.

mjpjr45 06-30-2013 11:26 PM

These thing have a backseat? :D

What's done cannot be undone. Let's examine the facts and then draw conclusions.

First your wife takes the jeep and lets some punk ice cream (read, I scream) it. Next your wife convinces you to take a friend and gear to the lake in jeep, only for you to realize that you may not have enough room.

It sounds to me like your wife is really trying to tell you something. But the question is, are you listening? And I mean, are you really listening?

Your wife wants you to put her name on the 2014 order list for a JKU: she wants you to be a two jeep family with the unlimited being hers.

That is all and your wife can thank me later.

LMT Rubi 07-01-2013 12:02 AM

get a second vehicle and keep everyone happy! I have a JKR and an Escalade for the family :punk:

HouseofCards 07-01-2013 12:11 AM

Don't regret

I mean you have enough room for you and the wife, what more do you need? If everybody wants a cool ride with no top to go to all the cool places then let them buy a jeep! Don't regret it because everybody else is unhappy that they can't go where you go. You bought it for you and the wife so let it be for you and the wife.

My advice, get a dog, they don't complain because the back seat isn't big enough. They are just happy to feel the air in their face.

Not at all. With just me and the wife we only need two seats anyway. We removed the rear seat and put it in the basement a few days after we bought it. Plus, the 2-dr has a very tight turning radius, which is one of the major things that attracted my wife to it. Her old GT Cruiser turned like a school bus. It's her DD.

Ivan M 07-01-2013 12:45 AM

Man Don't regret it, 2 doors is the way to go in a Jeep. Maybe it is me but those 4 doors look way too funny when all the doors are removed, cant say that about the 2 door. And besides the 4 doors look like a mini school bus to me, just sayin. Enjoy your new Jeep if others want more room, like some have said here, let them get their own Jeep. I will be buying my first jeep ever, it surely will be a 2 door.

Let me fix the title of this thread for you.

"Any regrets buying a "real Jeep"?

The answer is no, no regrets...

Hemiroid 07-01-2013 06:48 AM

No Remorse

Man!!!

I used to get stuck always being the driver with my more-door.

Now that I drive a JK with only 2 doors and the back seat gone, removed, never to return all I have is room for a co-pilot.

I have all the room I'd ever need for gear, groceries and loading up with parts at the swap meet.

More than 2 hitch-hikers and someone else can drive.

Best move I ever made.

Iron Maiden 07-01-2013 06:54 AM

I really don't care for the 4-door at all. One of the first things I did to my 2-door was remove the back seat and store it in the garage.

BB1857 07-01-2013 07:10 AM

We have been in our 2 door since April and not a single regret. We are a 3 person family and it has been great. It is our 3rd vehicle but its the go to if we want to go somewhere and the weather is nice. Took it to the beach and had plenty of room for our stuff and our sons lacrosse gear. We are taking it to Outer Banks in a couple weeks and are throwing a hitch rack on it to add some extra gear......My wife has said about trading in her SUV for a 4 door but until Jeep offers 0% interest I can't do that one...and i don't think they will ever offer that on the Wrangler!

Marc W 07-01-2013 07:50 AM

Another guy with a rear seat in his garage. The 2-door has a nice flat floor with plenty of storage space with the seat out. On the occasion that I might want to go 4-wheeling with the top off and friends in the back, it only takes a minute to put the seat back in after the top is off. I have a nice custom made carpet fitted for the floor tha stays in there and covers the seat attachment points so the dog has secure footing because he always gets to "GO". The money saved on that seldom used seat and doors buys a lot of more important stuff.

I have a 4 door because I need the room but freely admit that 2 doors are much cooler.

Someday........

JeeperJake 07-01-2013 08:58 AM

.....a 2 door is a convenient go anywhere 'man cave' subject to YOUR desires.....

Allowing others to come along in YOUR man-cave instead of staying on the couch doesn't mean YOU have to add rooms & doors & windows & roofs & etc to satisfy THEIR occasional passion.

I find my notion of 'stuff to take' expands the more room I have to take it in. And mostly everything really necessary fits in a back pack....so 4 doors are the answer?

I don't think so.

I've revised my own notion of 'what I need to take'.

It actually fits very well in a 2 door Wrangler.

MTNJeep 07-01-2013 09:02 AM

I went with a 2 door and love it.
For the 4 door, I have a 2011 Grand Cherokee.

mattdaddy71 07-01-2013 09:09 AM

Personally, I came very close to getting a 2 door.. The main issue, was lack of storage.. I don't generally drive with a lot of passengers (Usually just me and the girlfriend.. Sometimes her dog) But, for long snowboard trips, and camping trips, there was absolutely no way we could fit all our gear in the 2 door. (I tried.. Took all our boarding gear down to the dealership, and it just wasn't going to work) Plus, I personally don't have any issues with the look of the 4 door.. To me, it definitely isn't a "family cruiser" as some seem to call it.

Some days though, I do find myself jealous of the 2 door jeepers, but currently working on getting the gf to trade in her nissan for a 2 door..

EXACTLY!!!!! I enjoy being in mine, wouldn't trade it for anything.

I had to get creative when cross country skiing this winter. My skis are too long, but i was able to get them in eventually. I wouldn't buy a longer Jeep for that though, maybe just shorter skis... :)

Me too. She's not having any of it though...

I got the 2 door, and I'll admit I get stuck driving the friends around a lot. I don't mind at all. The fact it's a 2 door doesn't seem to bother them as it seems they prefer to just climb out the side than use the door anyway.

RockLobstah 07-01-2013 09:14 AM

I love the 2-dr except when I have to haul stuff. 4-dr would be nice to haul the dog and all our families stuff.

She loves the Jeep.. 99% of the time we go anywhere, thats what we take.. And she says she'd love to have a wrangler, but thinks it would be dorky if we each had one
