Rubicon Trail Trash

My wife and son were on the upper portion of the Rubicon Trail this weekend and were stunned by how much trash they picked up. Everything from half cans of beer, to ice chest lids to a nice jacket. WE have to keep these trails clean or WE are going to lose them. They even have signs at the trailheads saying that if we don't keep it clean the forest service will close it down. We are allowed to drive through designated wilderness on the Rubicon Trail. It would be all too easy to shut it down.

Sorry for the rant. I had to vent. I hope to see you all out on the trail soon.

Good to rant, once in awhile, especially on this subject. I agree, we need to keep it clean or we will lose it. My dad taught me, especially when out in the woods, always try to leave it a little cleaner than when you found it.

I see this type of thing all the time. It only takes a few "a holes" throwing their crap around to make the rest of us look like slobs. Best thing to do Is call people out whom you see doing it. And pick up trash to lead by example. There have been a few climbing areas in the south east shut down for this exact reason. It only takes a few apples to spoil the bunch.

My son and wife did the right thing. They stopped and picked it up. My son was a Boy Scout and my wife is still an Assistant Scoutmaster. That is what we train the boys to do. Leave it cleaner than you found it and understand that your actions are a reflection on the whole organization.

Absolutely, keep your stuff cleaned up. It's not that difficult.

Now, to put a political spin on this...I feel the government(s) have not right to close down any public park. The people "own" the government. The government answers to the people, not the other way around. The government has no right to punish the people for the way they the "people's" property.

Now off, my soap box...it's one of those days I could go on and on.

Rant away my friend. There should be grants in place that are promoted for 4x4 clubs to be able to fund clean up projects as well as educate said "a holes" on the benefits of a clean playground. It's on the trail where I take my family to play.

I hate when people throw trash out and litter. :(
They even do it on the highway. It's like come on...
Sometimes I can understand an accident. Like going downthe highway, and some paper blows out the window by mistake, but when people intentionally throw stuff out :(
