Any tips? Replacing brake booster and master cylinder.
I'm replacing both the master cylinder and the brake booster on my '88. Other than bleeding the master cylinder and the brake lines is there anything I need to know about installing the new brake booster? Any tips from someone who has done this before?

if you don't already have air in the system then chances are that you won't have to bleed them,as the only air will be right at the top of your lines where you disconnected them from the master cylinder and will exit through the new master cylinder when you refill it

OK. Thanks I'll see how they feel after everything is back together. This picture is the back of the new booster. Can you tell me what this orange stuff is around the rod? It looks like dried grease. Is it suppose to be there?

yeah it is fine..on your old one just disconnect that rod from your brake pedal, take the brake lines loose from the master cylinder and then remove the 4 nuts under the dash that holds the booster..pull the entire unit off and install the new one

Sounds easy enough. Thanks for your help.

yw//forgot to mention to pull the vacuum hose off the booster

Measure the length of the rod that stands proud of the booster and ensure that the new booster is the same length. Otherwise you could be pushing the master cylinder even with the foot pedal released.

Ok. I'll check that also. Thanks.
